Said Christians would gladly faceplant in Trump's dung all by themselves. There isn't much left of the Republican party besides the cult of personality. Trump had better go to prison or drop dead of a heart attack in the next 4 years or they're going to nominate him for president again. Though if he was out of the picture we'll probably end up with one of his stinker children instead. Here are a lot of charts showing that Republicans have become fundamentally anti-democratic. The reason Republicans are totally devoid of policy ideas and nobody cares is because the racists see liberals as an existential threat. They believe they're fighting for their very way of life (to be racist), so it does not matter if all their politicians do is give tax breaks to the rich as long as they are owning the libs. If the Democrats are a looming oppressor, then that justifies any and all tactics against them, including violence. Any elections won by Democrats must have been rigged. I understand this very well. Democracy supporters in Hong Kong range from socialists to liberals to right wing nativists (who love Trump) but they're all on the same side because they face a real life existential threat. Nobody cares about policy when the other side wants to put all of you in prison. And some of them resorted to violence. And much of the public found that understandable, if not desirable. I recognize that mindset. The difference is that the MAGAs are delusional.

Trump has sent cease and desist letters to the Republican Party, both national and state level. He wants them to stop using him to grift the chumps in the cheap seats, since they have no intention of giving him a cut. I suspect they've already told him to pound sand. This should be amusing.

The Republicans are undergoing some kind of implosion/mutation. It looks like we're going to see a lot of internal sniping combined with competitive culture war posturing. The latest thing they're flipping out about (after Dr. Seuss) is Warner Brothers removing the tits from a cartoon rabbit. We conservatives stand against the brutal censorship of lagomorphic sex symbols! LIBERTY AND FURRY BOOBIES!!!!
Remember when the Republicans had policy ideas? They weren't good, but they had some.

The problem is that it's been decades since they even seriously pretended they meant any of it. It's not hard to dispose of a toss-off lie when it's no longer convenient.

The only Republicans who still care about policy are about 15 wonks at various think tanks. But they have become irrelevant to the rest of the party, who have figured out that it's easier to rally the base with mean tweets and taking credit for stuff they didn't do.

I wonder how many of those people ended up changing their minds about Trump as a result of being ripped off? My guess, probably not that many. In the authoritarian mentality, nothing is ever the emperor's fault, he simply has bad staff, and he would surely set things right if only he knew what was going on.

I suspect I'm not the only one who's amused by the falling out between Trump and Moscow Mitch, but I doubt any of my colleagues in this are currently in the Senate Republican caucus.

Welp. Guess this means Trump's gonna talk some crazies into primarying Mitch. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but if the choice were between Mitch and some Jim Jordan/Ted Cruz clone, I think I'll take Mitch.
Trump being off Twitter has helped a lot, and Biden is so good at being a slippery target for outrage that Fox News is reduced to yelling at his dog, but the Republican voters are still batpoop crazy.

I don't know if we should conflate malign with insane. They're borderline psychopatic single issue voters who's only issue is white male privilege, but within that constraint they're fairly rational.

If by rational you mean "somewhat internally consistent within a mental universe divorced from reality", sure. Although yes, they are more vicious than crazy.
I already doubt we'll see any accountability for the Capitol Police leadership being told to deliberately turn a blind eye to, if not actively collude with, the January 6th insurrectionists. There's a reason all the former military chiefs wrote that open letter asking soldiers not to follow any unconstitutional orders. They knew a coup would be attempted.

And to the great shock of, well, nobody: the Republicans are getting more obstructionist about the bipartisan effort to look into their attack on Capitol Hill. Nope, not throwing Trump under the bus yet.

Of course not, as far as they're concerned, Trump is the bus.
It still doesn't look like the filibuster is going anywhere, and it isn't just because of Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema is being aggressively centrist as well. I am still worried that all the Democrats have won is a 4 year reprieve from the long democratic backslide. You cannot sustain a democracy when one of two major parties is committed to locking in structural minority rule based on pandering to 35% of the population.

Apartheid had the advantage of starting out with the majority already disenfranchised. It's harder when they're not.
