I think I'm going to go ahead and unlock Stealth in full.

My concept for this guy is part stage magician, and a stage magician needs to occasionally be able to move from A to B in front of an entire roomful of people without any of them spotting him. (Though he generally has a trapdoor or similar to help out, he still has to be quiet).

The Drow unlocks Investigation at 3. It makes sense for the character concept and for the race. Question: would knowing things like which lumps of rocklike stuff and which seeds from the husks of veggies and fruit might still be edible be survival?

Knowing the specifics of it would be a survival roll, but after bumping your investigation roll up to 5 with that 3 you're pretty sure you wouldn't want to risk eating the stuff regardless. With a roll of 5 you've determined that the city fell many decades prior. Even without a survival roll you're pretty sure the hardened blocks and husks would be inedible. You can still roll survival to examine the stuff more closely and try to determine more about the stuff, if you want.

Bumping investigation up to 3 increases your skill count to 11. You max out at 15 for now. I'll rewrite the post this evening when I find some time to do so.

That raises a question. Can we unlock a skill at 2 and bank a point?

When you use a skill you get the chance to unlock it at 3, 2, or 1, or abstain and get one free skill point to apply at a later date to bump a skill up beyond 3. Once you hit 15 skill points unlocked you won't get the chance to unlock anymore skills (and you won't be able to raise the ones you've already got) until you get a chance to sort your memories out (by gaining a Refresh level and increasing skill cap by 5). Not getting the chance to unlock a skill also means you can't abstain, meaning you don't get the free skill point.

So you can choose to unlock or abstain, but you only get the extra free skill point if you abstain.

Your skills still have to conform to the proper order, eventually working out to form a pyramid (or a column like discussed earlier) but you can assume the missing skills form the lower base if you take higher skills.

Ok, so he'll still unlock at 3. Finding stuff is important where he comes from (or so I've heard).

Terrible roll on that Survival check, but bumping your Investigation up by three found you a couple things in addition to getting you some extra information.

Much as he'd like to win them all, even with most of his memories gone the Drow knows he won't.

Quick question. Is the Drow trying to head directly to the castle through the fog, or is the Drow walking down the road to try and find another way to it?

The fog directly between where you currently stand and the castle is especially thick and hard to see through. Obscuringly so.

As memory serves there is no direct road from the marketplace to the castle even if he wanted one, though I'm a bit unsure how he knows this if he can't really see the castle. For now he'd prefer to find a more open path. Though he is aware that he's going to need to take apart and maintain that pistol soon (preferably before he loads it). Good thing that kind of pistol would have what was needed to maintain it in it's case.

Btw, when he picked it up had it been fired? He could tell at a glance; the pan would be uncovered and the hammer down.

The fog is so thick in that area that you simply can't tell if there's a more direct road or not. There might be, but until the fog clears you'll either have to follow the other road you see before you or wander through the fog and see where that leads you.

The gun was definitely fired.

I'm enjoying it so far. A little anxious for some of the PCs to meet though ;-).
