Stranded in St. Louis as Mankind's first battle for survival begins, four gamers and the civilians of a city strive to defend themselves against what else but everybody's favorite brain-hungry shambling undead monstrosities?

Welcome to Zombie Dawn.

This is not my first campaign. Hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes by going and making a game out of the blue though.

Using a ruleset derived from the d6 game known from the Bay12 forums as Roll To Dodge, submitted actions will be resolved through the throwing of a d10, with the character's relevant bonuses or penalties added. It's a bit less the complex RPG systems this forum knows and loves, however, and a bit more of over-the-top action and gameplay.

For example, the result chart:
Quote:
10: Complete Overkill
9: Epic Success
8: Success
7: Success
6: Mediocre Success
5: Mediocre Success
4: Failure
3: Failure
2: Failure
1: Epic Failure

Fill out the sheet below to join!

Character Sheet:
Name:
Weapon: [scavenged]
Gear: [three pieces that you possess IRL]
Brief Bio: [please]
Aspects:

Characters gain bonuses and take penalties through a system called Aspect Ratio. Create two Aspects for your character, one Good and one Bad.
For example: Good Aspects would be...
Ninja [+1 to unarmed combat]
Scientist [+1 to science checks]
Personable [+1 to charisma applications]
Whereas Bad aspects could include...
Shortsighted [-1 to search]
Loudmouth [-1 to assisting others]
Weakling [-1 to ranged attacks]

To gain another Aspect, you must get a Complete Overkill three times, which could be potentially disastrous. You then choose another Aspect, one Good and another Bad.

I am letting up to four play at a time. Once the first four get their sheets in, the game begins. There's really no need for a separate ingame thread with a game like this, it's simple enough to the point of where meta and in-character tend to get mixed. If you believe otherwise... just inform me. Once someone is eliminated and probably turned to the living undead, the first person to post their sheet gets the spot.

Sound good?

Let's get on with it then.

Question, teacher!

*raises hand*

How is the gameplay going to function? Is it going to be strictly combat or do we have to worry about hunger and securing sources of food? What about finding shelter? Do we need to secure a base of operations where we will be storing our supplies and resting in safety from the hordes of undead?

I'd like to know a bit more detail so I'll know what kind of character I'd like to play.

Play style will depend on what the party wants- I'm going to try for a bit of a sandbox feel, so it'll depend on if you guys decide to find a place to hole up. You might end up attracting a horde though, those are always fun. This is at the beginning of the outbreak, so organized police, medical and US Army groups are still present, although cut-off and ineffective citywide. HP will be healed by both supplies and recovery, so it'll have those elements, yes.

Can equipment also double as weapons? An axe or crowbar for example?

Or a large claw hammer? Use it to bash in skulls and build barricades!

I've played Half-Life, so there's no way I'm not accepting a crowbar as a viable weapon.

There are several categories of armed combat, listed here.

Unarmed combat generally involves punching things in the face in a frantic bid for survival, as you desperately hope your undead opponent doesn't decide to simply nom your fist. Unarmed: -1 to Combat, -1 to Dodge.

Combat with scavenged weapons generally involves getting up close and personal with the beasties, as you attempt to stick pointy objects into convenient orifices that look good. Anything from a crowbar to a board of wood with nails stuck in it are all scavenged weapons. Scavenged Melee: +0 to Combat.

Taking it to the next level involves finding something good and hitting a zombie with it. Swords, police batons, bowie knives, and anything else built to do the job close up and personal will do it. Melee Weapon: +1 to Combat.

And then? There's separation from the subject at hand. Bullets do their job and do it well, at the expense of being generally loud, constantly needing ammo, and potentially dangerous towards other survivors. Although sometimes that might be a good thing. Ranged Weapon: +2 to Combat, +1 to Dodge.

All of these attributes can be changed by Aspects, one way or the other.

Name: Jonathan Smith
Weapon: Large Claw Hammer
Gear: [High Quality Back Pack], [Kit Containing Assorted Construction Tools], [Lots and Lots of Duct Tape]

Brief Bio: Jonathan, a young man in his early twenties, was making a fair bit of his living performing household repairs before the outbreak. Due to the state of the economy, he was unable to find better paying work in a construction company like he had been hoping and as such was not making a very good living. His denim jacket and carpenter jeans are quite old and worn looking. He looks like he's needed a shave and a haircut since about a week before the outbreak even started.

Aspects:
Junk Hunter [+1 to Scavenging for Supplies and Items]
Never Held a Gun [-1 to Combat with Ranged Weapons]

Anything out of line?

Stan, if you can pull him off, you're welcome to it. I doubt it'd possible for anyone to though. Dude's a genius.

Those would be +1 Melee and -1 Dodge.

Stan and Skitz looks like they're going to constantly be going after power and gas. Heh.

One more character!

I've played too much L4D2 to consider a Fire Axe a scavenged weapon by the terms of this game.

Possibly true. I'll say... hmm...

With Skitz's +1 Melee, he's going to be operating at an optimum anyway. Call it a Hatchet and it'll be Scavenged. That all right, Skitz?
