So maybe this is a bit of a stretch. But the gent in today's strip http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/20091015 looks a lot like the Emissary in Oceans Unmoving http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/20051019. And since this is a displacement drive we're talking about, I think he may be about to get displaced into the oceans unmoving universe. Maybe we're finally tying that long storyline more into the main Sluggy plot. We could be seeing a little more Oceans Unmoving soon. I know there was more to the story, although I think Pete may have decided it was outside of the reach of normal Sluggy, so it might not be getting completed.

Yes... hah, you know, if Pete really wanted to surprise us he could have that guy (I don't think he has a name, does he?) not fall out of time here.

This guy looks exactly like the emissary and it would be obvious for him to eventually get blasted out of sight of the characters and into Timeless Space. But I don't see any reason to continue with that setting after explaining how he got there. This is a stretch: Those bad-guy uniforms look rather familiar in style. I knew I had seen ones resembling them somewhere. Heck, maybe Dr. Shankcraft will become Sir John Jacobs, or there's some other such connection. (I did say it was a stretch.)

It's probably just a cool nod-of-the-head for anyone who's paying attention, I doubt it will lead to any of the cast heading into Oceans Unmoving. Given all of the things that are up in the air right now, I just don't think the timing is right.

I'm more concerned with how closely Crushestro resembles Dr. Steve, but.... ehh, I guess all fat bald guys can potentially look the same.
Yeah, hmm, lots of people runnin' around in OU-like costumes... still, Pete CAN'T expect us to NOT recognize those outfits, so can we really hope to call him on this?

Is this the same person as Dr. Shankcraft from another dimension?
I think the characters in Oceans Unmoving are all from the main Sluggy Prime, they just fell out of time at different points in the timeline. http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/050208 . So other dimensions would probably have their own timeless spaces. But there's no real reason Shanklin couldn't be Dr. Shankcraft's pirate name.

What... those uniforms look nothing alike... The only thing they have in common is the shape of the headpiece, and I think you can attribute that to one being a ski-mask-like thing, while the other is a chain-mail-like thing, and the ambiguity of the sketched drawings. On the other hand, the emissary guy is obviously the same guy... although I don't know how "obvious" it is that someone was going to make that connection (I would never have remembered that guy in a million years). One person pointed it out in Reactions, now everybody's all, "It's too obvious!" but let me ask you, how obvious would it have been if nobody had pointed it out to you? We can't ALL have eidetic memories around here

No kidding. I certainly don't remember what minor characters looked like years later and I don't go through the archives often enough to keep that memory in my head. He didn't even register as "looks familiar" in my mind until I saw the reactions thread. It's obvious only in that knowing that he does look to be the same person, it's pretty sure that it's no accident.

They have a similar look, and theoretically someone could just like the look and repeat it, admittedly, with very different parts... But I'll just point out that I started talking about that by saying it was going to be a stretch. I never thought it was much of a connection. We can't ALL have eidetic memories around here I went to SRC first thing I saw this guy, because I figured any mention of this connection would get SPECC-BANNED! Apparently I was wrong.
