There was an ad for buying gold and items on the Conan game. Why? It seems contrary to what most Sluggites would be for.

With most things like this, I don't think we have any control over what ads show up.

That sucks. I mean, most of the stuff is just "whatever" material. The gold farming ads annoy me, though. Well, if there's nothing to be done, there's nothing to be done.

You can become a defender and get no ads whatsoever.... Or just use Firefox's Ad-blocker add-in. I've got mine configured to ignore any of the gold-farming MMO ruining RMT websites.

I am a defender....
I just forget to log in most of the time.
And my comment was more principle-based. I mean, I don't even really look at the ads. I was just annoyed that we had gold farming ones.

like dot said, we don't have any control over what ads project wonderful puts up there. With the current focus of the comic on a WoW parody the targeted marketing folks naturally would throw up RMT ads. They'll go away once the YoY storyline ends.

I *CANT* speak for Pete's opinion on Gold Farming, but I know that I don't approve.
We do have some control over advertisements, and can pull them. The way ad buys are they are not random, it is a purchase of a slot for a period of time - usually the day or such. So, we can decline an ad if it is something offensive, etc.
I can't make the decision myself to pull ads unless it's something clearly offensive (I know obscene when I see it! But I can't describe what it is!) (Pete has to be involved in these decisions as it's his business, not mine) but in the future, please feel free to bring them to my attention so that we can review these things.
I didn't see the ad in question but I certainly would have brought it to Pete's attention if I had.
In the future, a PM on the board is an easy way to get my attention. I don't do a good job of keeping up on the forums.

oh to clarify: We let project wonderful "Vet" the ads, for the most part we don't do a manual approval of each ad that goes up.
We haven't had a problem so far (this is the first questionable ad I've heard of), but in the future if there are problems we will be more careful to control what goes up.
