I tried deleting it, and then it either logged me out, added it up again, or both.

The way around it is to not check 'log me in automatically' and just let your browser remember the password. At least that's what I had to do.

I had the browser remember the password, the boxes are all filled in but I still have to click the log in button.

The problem appears to have been fixed. At least, for me.

Okay, I've figured out something wonky... My session starts as normal. I'm logged in, it remembers me, I can see new posts. I click on the "take me to newest post" link and it does so, but it no longer thinks I'm logged in. I go back to the forum and just click on the thread (or a page number for that thread) and now I'm in the thread but this time it remembers I'm logged in. I go back, click on the new link button and I'm not logged in. Page number, logged in. In other words, it's replicable. Weird, but replicable.

In other news, this also explains why clicking on the "take me to newest post" link doesn't mark the thread as read, but that clicking on the latests page does so.

I, too, have the problem of the new postings flags never being reset. In fact, it's being set even for a posting I just made. My bookmark does not have a session ID attatched, it simply points to http://www.sluggy.com. I tried deleting any cookies that had session IDs, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Just another data point.

EDIT: I just logged out and logged back in after reading the forums. None of the new postings flags are set, so the problem appears to be fixed, for now. (Now let see if they ever get set ;-) )

Arcosh has, I think, found the core of the problem (Surgoshan is also mostly there). When clicking on the 'go to first unread post' link, you are then redirected to a link to the first unread post. However, the link sends you to that post at sluggy.net/whatever rather than www.sluggy.net/whatever. Unfortunately, owing to the intricacies of browser sessions, you are perceived as not logged in at the www-less domain, so your viewing of the page isn't recorded and the topic not marked as read.

I tried to get around this by switching my bookmark to point at sluggy.net in the first place, but then the board fails, for some reason, to install any cookies and so is unable to keep me logged in. So that approach doesn't work.

If I remember rightly, there is a setting in the Administration panel for the domain on which the forum is running. If this is currently set to sluggy.net , then I suspect that changing it to www.sluggy.net would fix the problem.

As a workaround, when viewing threads with the 'go to first unread post' link, manually add a 'www.' to the url in the location bar.

Axel's solution is the same one I found...which suggests the final server fixes rit referred to elsewhere may fix the problem once and for all...if he ever finds time to complete them.

Thanks, that explains something else I was beating my head against. When I tried to remove the &sid from my urls it either came back automatically or logged me out. I couldn't get away from it. Switching to www. and then removing the &sid seems to work finally.

Hm, there may be something wonky with the http://www.sluggy.com site as well. That's what my bookmark is set to, and when I logged in just now I wound up with all of the posts I read last night marked as unread. Changing to .net and removing the SID from the address bar seems to have fixed things for now.

Okay, now clicking on the "latest unread" link works just fine; but now it's not acknowledging at all that I've read a thread and it stays marked new.

It's definitely the sluggy.net url. If I navigate away, and return at my www.sluggy.net bookmark, I no longer have the problem. Can the login page be fixed?

So here's a new one...

For no good reason, other than "'cause it was there" I went into the defenders scrapbook today. None of the random photos links work; all return a file/album does not exist error.

Also, clicking on one of the album categories simply causes the main scrapbook page to re-load.

The "unread posts" flags are still not being unset when I read threads.
