This week, FedEx tried to deliver to me a very large amount of merchandise clearly intended for a retailer or distributor. Since they tried to ship it to my old home address, it was not until today that I found out it was eight(!) boxes containing a variety of gaming paraphernalia. There’s a packing slip attached, showing that it was meant to be shipped to a company in Oregon.

My question to the Sluggite community is this: What should I do? What would you do?

(I’ve already taken a course of action, but let’s hear your thoughts anyway.)

I would be really, REALLY tempted... But would correct the error. And die a little inside.

Aw, but how would you correct the error? What would be your first step?

Oh man, I'd also be tempted, but I'd call the company and tell them that I have their packages and that as long as they pay the shipping I'll send it along. Untill then I'd be holding their gaming stuff hostage.

Sometimes I regret having been a Boy Scout. Stupid organizationally-implanted morality.

Ebay?

No! Bad Ngau!

Yeah, send it all back. Maybe they'll give you something as a gift. More than likely a coupon, but what the heck.

I'd probably intend to send it to the company, and then forget to do it for four months, and then lose the company's phone number, and then find it three months later, and then call them and find they'd gone out of business, and then use the cardboard boxes for various projects and the gaming equipment for doorstops.

I'd purchase one of those lifelike rubber facehuggers from the Aliens movies, and put it in one of the boxes with a spring so that when they opened it, the facehugger came flying out. Then get FedEx to ship it to the correct company.

We had this happen with a drum kit once (no drums, just the stuff to hold it up, but not cheap either).

It can actually be fairly difficult to get to the right person. I think we were able to get FedEx or UPS to do it themselves, because they were the ones who screwed up. In our case, we couldn't even call the number of the person it was supposed to go to because it was a long distance number and we didn't have long disctance service at the time. Also, it was going to the right name, but the wrong person. The address was a school address of a school my spouse had gone to, so we assumed that FedEx got OUR address from the school instead of getting the correct forwarding address. All very confusing, in the end.

Keep it, play with it. Laugh, secure in the knowledge that you're Jewish and there is no hell.

I'd take out my dice bag and debate what combination of dice to use for a morality check.

d20? d100? 3d6?

That in itself would probably be a pain, then would come the actual rolling.

Is this a large company, or a smaller one? If it's a larger one (IE Wizards of the Coast), they've probably seen the error and sent a new shipment, cutting their losses. A smaller company may be going "Ahh! Where's that $300 shipment go! We need it!"

Either way, I'd say contact the company.

I did once, lol. I never knew about it, until I veiwed my statement. Someone transferred about a thousand dollars into my cheq account, and two hours later it was transferred out again.

on topic, I would definately contact the person it was supposed to be going to, and as soon as you can. let them know what happened, and let them take it up with FedEx to get it shipped to where it was supposed to go. Keeping it means Bad Things will happen, at least eventually. But by giving it back quickly you might score some good stuff out of it.
