Here's the original comic, and the lines are as follows:

CCC: I'm not sure what it is, but it's been subpoenaed as a witness in the SCO case.
drachefly: Whew. I thought you were about to use up clock cycles on my Progress Quest box.
Durandal: Or step on it, or look at it, or sneeze near it, or... you really just need to stay away from it, OK?
kitoba: I think it's on the verge of developing sentience!
Stan Cold: Of course I wouldn't touch it! We haven't even dated yet!
inspy: It's a fascinating and previously undiscovered life form ... or last month's lasagna. I can't remember ...
Jorodryn: It has my lunch and I haven't figure out how to get it back yet.
Steave: It's either the faulty coolant chamber that's been giving me grief or ... my lunch from last Thursday.
Actual line: I don't know what it is, but it pays half the rent.

Wow, a rare case in which the funniest line was actually the correct answer!

Dot, thanks for stepping in. I hope everything is fine and that the figurative truck wasn't too literal.

Congrats to CCC, far and away the stud of Comicdash, and thanks to everyone who played. We were a bit of a victim of our own popularity this time around --a few fewer players might have made for a snappier game. For those who didn't get to go, we may restart this later, but for now let's let it rest --I have a feeling some new threads will appear with fun and new game ideas in them! :sasha:

I misread who had the dialog, so mine didn't really make sense.

Aargh. I forgot that GPF also had something like that. I thought someone was trying to draw votes by referencing User Friendly's dust puppy.

FWIW I thought yours was really clever. It was lateral enough that I almost voted for it except that the other line made me laugh more, even though I thought yours was actually a little more likely to be the right one.

BTW, I took a peek at GPF starting at the cited strip and then jumped to the end. Quite a contrast in tone! Almost Sluggyesque, one might say...

Much to my surprise. Still, after my terrible performance in lyricdash, this was a very welcome surprise indeed.

It was fun, and I greatly enjoyed the contest.
