Dead at 84. I don't quite feel like crafting some kind of "Shirley" joke right now, and will probably watch some Naked Gun, Airplane!, or Police Squad later this week in remembrance.

I was thinking about starting this thread myself. Good god the man was funny. Here's hoping that there's a few of his films on Netflix streaming.

What?! Leslie Nielson's dead?! Surely you can't be serious?!*

*I'm pretty sure it's what he would have wanted

Yes, I'm serious- and don't call me Shirley.

OK, I have closure...

He picked the wrong week to give up breathing.

I quite agree. He would be laughing his butt off. Great and talented man.

I too loved his comedies. Sure he was a great dramatic actor as well, but he really found his niche with Airplane and the TV and movie roles that followed. I may have to watch Airplane again this weekend.

Rest in peace, Leslie, I just want to tell you good luck. We're all counting on you.

Saw this one a lot when Lloyd Bridges passed.

It's probably just as well that all of the memorial articles, blogs, and message board posts have focused on his work in the Airplane! and Naked Gun movies, rather than on his role in Nuts.

Only on the inside. Outside, stony as ever.

Last night I watched Forbidden Planet as a sort of tribute to Leslie Nielsen. If you can get your hands on the 50th anniversary blu-ray version of this movie (Netflix has it), I cannot recommend it highly enough. This movie looks unbelievably gorgeous in high definition, far better than you'd expect of a film this old. And the visual effects shots hold up surprisingly well.

Plus, it's just a great movie in general... watched it in a history of visual effects class, loved it.
