I have been an eternal fan of sluggy freelance; and like many of you; I have been following his work for years. It is remarkable to watch how the comic has changed from its initial release in 1997. sluggy freelance has evolved from its early days of simple gags and eccentric characters to more sophisticated plot arcs and profound lore that have developed over time; making it genuinely unique in the web comic world.

One thing that impresses me is how the tone of the comic has changed over time. The early strips were primarily humorous; with a lot of focus on pop culture and the odd. But as time passed; we began to notice a much darker and more serious side to the story. The character development has also been fantastic. Watching torg; riff; zoe; gwynn; and even bun bun evolve over the years has been one of the most satisfying aspects of reading this comic.

I have been curious about how other fans react to these adjustments. Do you think the change in tone was a natural development; and do you think the comic has lost some of its original appeal? I like the more serious themes; but I regret sluggy brighter; more carefree days. Those early comics have a nostalgic quality to them; and I find myself returning to them on occasion.

Another factor that interests me is how Peter Adler has kept the comic fresh for so long. With so many web comics that begin strong but later fade; it is surprising that sluggy freelance has kept such a loyal fanbase. I would like to hear from some of the longtime fans. What keeps you coming back? Is it the personalities; the plotlines; and simply the improbability of it all?

for those who have lately joined the fandom; how do you compare the early strips to the current ones? Does the new art style and storytelling appeal to you; or do you favour the comic's present direction?

I am interested to talk about the future of sluggy freelance. With the comic being more than two decades old, where do you believe it is going? Pete has hinted at winding up several storylines; but do you believe we are nearing the conclusion of an era, or is there much more to come? What do you hope to see happen with the characters and the story in the future years?

I will say I love how it started and how it is now. The stories get a little too long at times, but it's always interesting the directions Pete takes it. As for others...

Many complained how it went from a gag-a-day strip with a veneer of story to basically a visual novel with a deep story attached. Most of those people left.
The forum would probably fall apart if wasn't around... I'm partially kidding.

I like what Pete is doing and I enjoy it. It's as simple as that.

I've enjoyed it. Got introduced to it maybe a week before a family member died back in 2006 or so and spent the week after the funeral binge reading the entire comic to keep my head on straight. Followed it more or less every day since then. I guess every week now.

Was big into the forums back when they were more active and a lot of my formative young adult personality developed here.

I kinda wish the comic updated more but Pete is getting older and he's maintained this as a full time job for literal decades so I understand him kicking back and slowing down a bit. I enjoyed the jokes. The humor. The puns. When the stories got serious I enjoyed them as well. Keep wishing we'll get an Oceans Unmoving 3, even though I think I'm the only one who wants that. Timeless Space was nifty as all get out.
