Ooof! Hadn't noticed it. Probably some design Pete had fun with imagining alt version of his character and later reused for his bonus story.

As I recall, Pete mentioned it at the time the bonus story came out. So it was intentional; or intentional-ish. I don't recall whether he said that he had an inkling of a bonus story in mind at the time he drew the original pair (it was over 10 years prior to the bonus story), or whether it was originally intended as just an inside joke. Unfortunately, I don't know where to start looking for that post... So trust my memory or not... :kiki:

Pretty sure Pete has confirmed that was an intentional callback when he did the bonus story.
