A spell taking years of effort to prepare that operates using blood and death magic, visiting Carpathia, a tangle in the web leading to Chaz... Is this how the Strakoi vampires get their start?

It's an interesting thought! I never really got into the vampire story lines myself, but I think they could be further pulled into the main storyline. This would be a way to do it!

And now we've got that line: "New servants. Of bird and man. Of blood and death.".

I never noticed anything too bird-like about the Strakoi, but now that I think about it I do recall them rocking those plague doctor bird masks in that one scene.

Vampires are sometimes associated with the plague, and "death bird" is another name for the plague doctor mask. So there's a lot of connections there.

I also vaguely recall the Vrykolakas believe they originate from someone called The Master? This might also be Yffi, especially if his life well predates the scribe, since he clearly had a home base near Greece. It could be that he roamed around Europe doing blood magic experiments, and effectively created every type of vampire...

Perhaps they wore those plague doctor masks because they had more to do with the plague than we thought. Perhaps they posed as doctors so they could bloodlet people and feed on the blood.
