I'm thinking that it's Black Ops Elves on the other end of the radio discussion Bun-Bun is having. Or some remnant of them.

No idea what they could be 'retrieving' that would 'make things so much worse' for Torg and company. The Oasis project? A leftover orbital DFA? Chaz?

I had a horrifying thought... retrieving Gwynn? I couldn't imagine BunBun setting up something like that. But that would be one of the worst things for someone to retrieve. That or the Book of Ughlee.

I would like to think that BunBun is on their side though. As grumpy as he gets, and as mean as he seems, they are still HIS gang, and he will protect them if he needs to.

I think they're two relatively different things. I can't imagine Bun-bun would sell them out.

Clearly poop will hit the fans with the Paper-Gwynn waging war on Gods thing. I think he's still trying to unload the diamonds....but to acquire something very specific. What that'll be, who knows. He's secretive. It would be neat if this is how they were pulling that crazy dagger he's discretely obsessed about back into play.

Knowing the bunny, I think he's much more concerned about the being that wielded that dagger, rather than the dagger itself. Given his memory loss, I wonder how much he remembers about that murder. Given the ongoing (albeit currently paused) conflict with Santa, who appears to be the Krig, I always assumed that the Krig was the culprit, if only accidentally. However, there's a reason that we don't KNOW who did it... Could it be that Symachus was the actual culprit? Could that be a thread that pulls everything (well not quite everything) together?

I'm betting 100% on Symachus. After all, he screwed over the previous spark to make his play for godhood.
Interesting reasoning about Santa Krig, though...

I'm just gonna... stand... way over here.

In a poncho.

Behind this wall.

In another time zone.

I never stopped for a second to consider WHO wielded the knife that has him on edge. Ooops! Good thought.

Here's another thought: Bunbun could probably just steal other diamonds or something else of value. I wonder if they're really JUST diamonds...

That's true. If BunBun is from before Mokadun, then his mother would have been as well, and she was murdered by that knife. We saw Farahn with it, using it to sacrifice the priestess to raise KK, but where did he get that from? Probably Symachus. So...hmmm...

Okay, so I started to post this on the Reaction thread, but since spec may be involved, I am putting it here...

So, look at this comic strip, Panel 1:
https://archives.sluggy.com/book.php?chapter=74#2024-04-23

In Riff's memory pictures, he is posing with another boy. I had, on first glance, assumed it to be Torg. But looking closer, the boy has a hat with the letter F on it and a cat image on his shirt. JUST like the boy at the beginning of this Monstrous arc, and who we see in the crystal ball!!! Gwynn wants to know WHY she isn't seeing Riff.
I am assuming we all probably thought (I know I did) that the events at the beginning of this arc, with the boy in the "Darkest Woods" was happening rather recently. Within close proximity to when Torg, Sam, and Gwynn were in the woods trying to rescue Olivia from the Mushroom Hag. I myself thought it was probably within a few months of that, definitely within a year of it. But given these memory pictures, it's obvious that this boy is from Riff's childhood!!
AND, in one of the pictures, the boy is with both Riff AND Torg! So Torg would know him. Which is WHY Torg is saying "Wait...What?!" He recognizes him. But it would be someone from his childhood. I wonder if it's someone that went missing. OMG.
Hopefully finding out who this is will give us some insight on why Gwynn is seeing this person/past memory instead of Riff himself.

I wonder what the "F" stands for. Did they ever mention having a friend with a "F" name? Or do we know any characters/demons/etc. with an "F" name?

I’m pretty sure there was discussion about this earlier, because people noticed that the F-cat kid was in those photos at the time.

But yeah, no further revelations as of yet.

Okay. His name is Fred but I don't think it's the same Fred. Torg said he was a lawyer, not a cannibal. Pretty close but it's gotta be a different guy.

What if lawyer Fred isn't childhood friend Fred at all though? Based on this, I can't help wondering if lawyer Fred is a changeling.

So, Poopypants is tormenting Riff with deeply entrenched core memories from his childhood that we don’t know about yet.

But don’t worry! Gwynn will save Riff by combating Poopypants in Riff’s dreamscape using her newfound Basphomy nightmare powers that she seized by right of caste! Or whatever that highlander thing is called here.

:gwynn:

Edit: bonus spec round: this will be done after the crystal ball is shattered. She’ll think it’s her own powers that gets her back in there, but gradually during the fight she’ll realize its Basphomy’s powers, then go full gusto to win the fight. Weeeee!

Ooooh, I like this! Also, Gwynn has had plenty of experience fighting PP in dreams.

Have I forgotten something? Is this Fred a cannibal?

That could fit the theme of this chapter
