He explicitly keeps the brain, though, with what I thought was the implication that the person is still alive and experiencing normal possession, but will die the minute they stop getting possessed since Tabby is basically keeping them alive enough to possess. If they weren't alive, Tabby could have just repossessed the human remains after spitting them out, right?

Yeah with his last host he said transforming his face wasn't fun for them, so they're definitely still alive until he stops possessing them.

Yeah. It's just like the old guy that turned to dust when they used the book on him. Presumably he was too old to be alive naturally, but he didn't die until the demon was exorcised.

Technically alive, but effectively dead. Might still have consciousness, but he's not at the wheel and he'll be instantly dead the moment the demon is expelled. Short of 4u city nanites with a previous snapshot, there's no hope for him now.
