Is Mrs. Claus crying because she is sad some female "person" died? Is she crying because she is overjoyed that this "person" died? Or is she laughing so much that tears are streaming out? Whichever it is, Thursday is not going to assume who this "person" is, until she states the name. ---- Vote for Sluggy Freelance at Top Web Comics. Remember to vote for who you think that "person" is.

I'll go to spec to say what this confirms, because I'm sure some will disagree, but I think this strip very much confirms what I believe had already been effectively confirmed in the Immortal King arc as well as some other things that were never really touched on, but seem kind of obvious in hindsight.

I'm disappointed in Pete. It wasn't a misdirect after all.
Anyway. She has some type of relation to Bas...
Also interesting paintings in the background. Especially that third one.

Pulling out all the stops on the art, Pete. Great job.

Mrs. Claus: I got good news and bad news. Basphomy has escaped. Mr. Claus: OH NO OH GOD OH NO! What am I going to do?! Mrs. Claus: And she is dead. Mr. Claus: Oh. Um..... ok. (goes back to reading Halo: Fall of Reach). * Mrs. Claus is making the crying dork face https://www.google.com/search?q=konosuba+crying+face* Mr. Claus: The Pumpkin King will be glad to hear that threat is gone. Because WOW is that dude a weak little punk. Basphomy would kick his butt so hard. Woof. * Good to see Mr. Claus thinking rationally. Gotta look out for your friends happy and keep your military alliances strong. Especially after what happened last time.

There's the triangle of circles twice more: On some woman's oversized belt buckle, and on some irregularly shaped thing on a pedestal. It certainly seems to suggest a closer connection between Basphomy and Mr. and Mrs. Claus than we knew about.

GUIGUI wrote: So Mrs. Claus was once Wonder Woman, got it. Not too far off really. I assume the first male picture is Zeus, the second one is clearly Odin. Santa is thought to be heavily inspired from Odin, so assuming the pictures are all of Mr and Mrs Claus throughout the millennia is reasonable. My best guess for the third picture is Gwyn ap Nudd, but that's an area of mythology I have extremely poor knowledge of. The symbol definitely looks reminiscent of Celtic stuff.

More Like Tinia, which can be considered his Etruscan equivalent, but I think Tinia was less of a womanizer than Zeus/Jupiter, so more fitting to Sluggy's santa. And it feels to me like there is a greater distinction between the Etruscan gods and the Greek/Romans one, the same way there is more of a distinction between the Greek/Roman gods and the Egyptian ones. I could be wrong, but it always seemed to me like Zeus was kinda distinct from the Krig. At least the way Zeus's role is depicted in the Sluggy-verse, it doesn't seem to me as if it was the Krig himself who created the Deus Egg Ovums (Ovi?). I mean, if he was, what is stopping the Krig from creating new ones? They made it clear they used the last one and they made it sound quite final: And look at how Mrs. Claus is talking about Zeus, there. Kinda weird to refer to her husband this way. This flow more naturally if Zeus and the Krig are distinct entities, the way she makes a distinction between Zeus and a "young Santa" and how she explicitly says that "Zeus has fallen", but a "Young Santa" has taken over. Then again, it could just be the same kind of distinction between "Bast" and "basphomy". Quote: My best guess for the third picture is Gwyn ap Nudd I think it's simply Yule Father, so basically Odin or Father Christmas, aka Santa before he was fully assimilated by Christianity, and was sometimes represented with horns.

I'm going with Wotan for the last picture -- though I guess that might be too close to Odin to merit a wardrobe change. and... off to spec.
