Really Gwynn? You're gonna let your vanity screw you over, again!?

Well, true. Vanity has always been the source of Gwynn's "issues" over the years. However, she may also believe that by maintaining her illusion of normalcy, she is protecting her friends. Protecting them from worrying about her. Protecting them from any guilt they may feel for "letting her down" and not protecting her.

But, yeah. No one likes to be pitied. Maintaining the illusion feels like the right thing to do - even if it is ultimately just vanity.

She also seems to have some memory loss about how to do magic, which could certainly be a blow to her confidence.

The dryad seems to notice Sam's eyes (i.e. their lack of forgetty redness), which makes me wonder... what happened to his shades? I notice he's had them off and on in the first few strips, and then they just went away. He actually says "who stole my shades?" but presumably knows what actually happened, because... Sampire.

Soooo I'm not sure why the shoulder-angel is helping her perpetuate the lie while the shoulder-devil is telling her the unvarnished truth and not to be afraid.

I have to agree that they seem to swap roles. Isn't the angel supposed to tell her to do the right thing – talk to Torg and Sam – and shouldn't the devil be the one tempting her to hide?

I seem to recall them both being pretty devilish. Or at least vain.
