Also, looking at where the laser beam was drawn... was he trying to kill Wilcott?

Although it looks like a fury-powered spell from her just bounced of Snakira, so she might need a better weapon to pull this murder off! Kira should read her audience better. Especially when the enemy can simply page a powerful witch. Now she needs to run for cover. Or book a flight out of there.

Actually, the Zappo also corresponds to a 'flare' on Kira's thumb. I think Riff shot exactly what he was aiming for and caused Kira to drop his dad. That being said, he is lucky that he didn't miss and hit his dad instead...

Lady Tomb zapped Kira on her book-bracer, and I think that's what made her drop Wilden. And I'm guessing Riff shot as soon as she dropped his dad.
Not sure, but it looks like Riff's shot goes BEHIND Kira. But yeah, swmartian is right that he seems to have clipped her thumb.
