Riff's expresion when Torg denies the gift nurse.... :D

The 'I don't mean to look a gift nurse in the blouse but...' line is confusing me... yep, I can't see the pun in it. [insert embrassed face here]

Being back to the normal sluggy gang seems... odd though, afftr the high octane action of TWR.

But hell, tis good to be back.

Poor confused Luke, "looking a gift nurse in the blouse" is a pun on "looking a gift horse in the mouth", the meaning of which is that you find everything bad with something you got for free.

I hope poor Torg recovers soon. And I can't help but wonder, what would an Alt-Oasis be like? Would they even have met? (I started thinking about this after I tried to think of other characters he could talk to.)

Heh, nice T-shirts.
Classic Sluggy + New Development = Excellent.

Aside from punning well, Torg did display a certain dramatic streak before.

I was relieved to get some context after all the stuff that's happened, and then being taken back into normal silly Sluggy land yesterday with no sign or mention of Torg.

Poor Torg!

Luke's right, it does feel a little odd switching back to sluggy "normality" because of how intense things were in the DOL. Which is probably how Torg feels, only more so.

Oh, and the "gift nurse in the blouse" thing:

In ye olden times, if someone gave you a horse as a gift (y'know, before gift vouchers were invented) it would be very insulting to that person to "look the horse in the mouth" - it meant you were checking the horse's health as the teeth and gums would tell you about the horse's age and condition. It would imply also that you were a little ungrateful.
So nowadays if someone says "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" they mean that you should be grateful because you got something, but your level of gratitude shouldn't depend on the material worth of the gift.
Not to overthink this, but if you get a strip - o - gram as a gift, checking her teeth would tell you nothing you wanted to know. You'd be looking somewhere else, right? Hence "look a gift nurse in the blouse". If you really take the analogy far enough it implies that while the value of a horse can be seen in its mouth, apparently the value of a stripper is in her blouse.

Now that I've analysed that joke to death, doesn't Kiki look cute in her Yay salt shirt? :kiki:

My thoughts exactly. Torg just doesn't feel like he can talk about it yet, probably. As so many have pointed out, it would be rather awkward. Also: Sometimes you need to work out your problems on your own.

then today was moving forward again.

we're easing back into sluggy prime, while still dealing with torg's problems.

"First of all: Ick." Well, we're definitely back in Prime. That's our Zoe.

So, we need two more appearances of the Candy Striper Stripper to get her added to the Sluggy index, right?

Yay for spot color!
Yay for Margarita Mondays!
Yay for "Gift Nurse in the Blouse!" :torg:

Am I the only one who thinks the Gift Nurse should be animated? Maybe for Sluggy's eighth birthday?

I imagine Pete did this very much on purpose, just to give us a taste of what Torg's going through now. Normality seems abrupt and a little strange after all of that--but increasingly welcome.

FWIW, there actually is a Cayuga Salt Mine: Here is one reference I found to it. Checking an online map, it's near the south end of Cayuga Lake, about 40-50 miles southwest of Syracuse.

There is also a work of sculpture, made in1969, by Robert Smithson (I'd never heard of him either) called Eight-Part Piece (Cayuga Salt Mine Project)"

I have no idea whether Pete is using the actual mine as a model. I doubt that the sculpture has anything to do with it. Though you never know.

Torg depressed? Bummed? Down-hearted even? Ye Gawds, he's becoming a goth! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Well, actually, as long as he doesn't dye the tips of his hair black and start listening to stuff like Morissey, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Sisters of Mercy (despite what Andrew Eldritch says, SoM is a gothic rock band), he'll be okay.

Hmmm... a Mopeygoth Torg? Ohhhhhhh Fan-art-here-I-come! Squee!

Yes, I posted this before reading everyone else's reactions, so if someone made this stab at Torg pre-me, I apologize.

Yes i also understand that there is more to being a goth than being depressed all the time and listening to the aforementioned bands.

Margaritas need salt. A salt mine serving margaritas. On a Monday. The thought of a salt mine serving a party drink on the most non-partying day of the week.

At least that's what I saw it as, and it brought a chuckle to my face.

<-- See?
