I thought ozid was supposed to be weak. But in reality he's an emergent (based on Sharon's definition) which should be rare and powerful. Ozid has no need of a host and of he does possess someone they look different. But on the other hand just about any human has a stronger will and can dominate him. Others like Lacey and Chilus require a host but easily dominate the will of their hosts. And then you have mcpoopypants who is both strong and emergent although he doesn't do much possessing (probably because he has no need).
I guess what this means is that strength and type do not necessarily correlate.
I always figured it was more a matter of where their strength can be put to use.
Emergent like Ozzid are powerful enough to exist on their own. But when they exist on their own, their powers are basically being used to do just that. Exist. Apparently that's pretty hard. As a result, they can be overpowered by others. Poopypants, on the other hand, is crazy strong enough to both exist and still be strong.
Possessors like Lacey and Chilus aren't strong enough to exist on their own, so they don't even try. But when they possess someone, their full power gets put into controlling people.
Makes me wonder that if someone like Ozzid went back to the Never, would he be the equivalent of a powerful demon lord because he doesn't need to spend his power on existing? That might also be why they're so rare.... emergent types can choose to stay home and be powerful, or come to earth and exist on their own without having to possess a gross human body...but be weak. Basically, forcing a choice of strength vs. independence. That would eliminate the need for subtypes, too.
