It's easy to see/hear something and go "oh, a demon".

It's harder to notice the absence of something.

It might need even more than closeness. I think they need to know that the other person is possessed. In the next main-story strip that continued that conversation, Chilus didn't recognize Skip until he physically manifested.

Similarly, in this latest strip N'awww didn't realize Aylee was no longer possessed even though they were in immediate proximity.

I came here to comment on how unlikely that would be, but then Guigui's archive dip made me reconsider. This forum is a wealth of knowledge. :D
