Hmm. Well, if the gunpowder isn't any use for loading the pistol then at least it still smoulders. The Drow puts a normal charge of powder with the wick and tries again. If needs must he'll shave splinters of a chair and scrounge something drier from the office in here to get appropriate kindling.

The Dwarf, noting that "Wright" is still busy with the pistol, continues his search for the key.

The Human leaves the warmth of the house and heads back out onto the streets. The Light Fog covering the streets is quite easily pushed back by the light of the candle and the Human continues unimpeded. A quick look around shows him two probable locations. The tower he woke up in is the closest and most easily visible. It's only a short backtrack to where he came from.

In the opposite direction, on the far side of the city, a castle looms in the darkness and fog. It's far taller than the tower, but it's farther away... and the fog covering it is Obscuringly dense.

The surrounding streets are covered in a Light Fog, but the light of the candle keeps the Human comfortable.

The Drow goes to try and start a fire for the second time, using more gunpowder to try and get things going more readily.

Survival: +3, Roll: +0, Total: +3.

The trigger is pulled, the flint sparks, and the gunpowder ignites. It doesn't burn with much in the way of gusto, but it gets the job done and manages to set alight the lantern wick. From there things proceed smoothly. After some moments of work, the Drow is able to get a small fire going in the hearth of the tavern's main hall.

He lights his lantern and stands up from the flame to find the entire room completely devoid of the haze that had been flowing through it earlier. The flame in the fireplace and the light of the lantern dance cheerily, pushing back the cold and the fog leaving the Drow feeling warm and comfortable.

The Dwarf searches the room some more, trying to find a key.

Investigation: ?, Roll: -2, Total: -2.

He's not making much headway trying to find one, if indeed one is even there at all. As he's searching the Dwarf realizes he's not as cold as he was before and the haze that was filling the building up before has vanished.

The Drow and Dwarf are comfortable. The immediate vicinity is Clear.

"Hmm. That's...convenient."

Wright puts some pieces of linen into that metal box he found, pokes a small hole in the top, then props it on the fire to make charcloth. That taken care of, he starts searching the place. Perhaps there's some cooking oil or old candles around here somewhere. There's certainly got to be a store of firewood or fuel of some kind.

The Human evaluates his options. The Tower would be easier to reach, without - the Human very explicitly does not think about a frozen corpse (because that was clearly just a prop) - without getting uncomfortably chilly. On the other hand, the Castle will block off a lot of the sight lines from the Tower, and moreover it's definitely possible that the director's office is inside the biggest building around, i.e. inside the Castle. So the Castle is definitely the best place to go, but to go there safely warmly is another matter entirely. Surely there must be a safe route in...

The Human goes wandering through the streets, trying to circumnavigate the Castle without entering any mists thick enough to defeat his candle, looking for a passage of thinner mist to approach the Castle with. He will also keep an eye out for any firewood along the way.

After a moment it occurs to the Drow that he's not alone here...he looks at the Dwarf. "Forgive me, but you aren't a native of this place, are you?"

The Drow searches about the first floor of the tavern looking for cooking oil and fuel.

Investigation: +3, Roll: +0, Total: +3.

There's plenty of old wooden furniture in the common area that could be busted up for wood if need be, but the metal rack next to the fireplace that might have held wood is empty. The rest of the room seems empty of anything interesting until the Drow looks up at the small wooden chandelier hanging from the ceiling. After finding a sturdy stool to stand on he's able to reach up and procure five stubby candles. They don't look like they have much life left in them.

Sorting through the absolute mess that is the current upheaval that is the kitchen, the Drow is able to find a small jug of cooking oil. Next to the wood burning stove is a small stack of firewood. Enough to last a few hours if managed carefully. Half a day at most.

The Drow moves to talk to the Dwarf and finds him... somewhat inattentive to the question asked.

Alertness: +4, Roll: +0, Total: +4

The Dwarf is a little more than merely inattentive. As the Drow looks closer, the Dwarf appears to be somewhat translucent. He moves in a slow, almost dreamlike, manner, apparently searching about the room but not actually interacting with it. His fingers pass through whatever he touches and he is unresponsive to the Drow's queries.

The Dwarf has Faded Out, becoming a part of the background. He will Fade In and become active next time his player posts. Until then he will not be subject to environmental effects, damages, or living requirements such as food, water, or rest.

The Human searches about the street looking for a warmer route through the fog of the city.

Alertness: +2, Roll: +1, Total: +3.

The Human doesn't see any path that is any better than following the road directly to the castle. For some reason the main road is the clearest visible area that isn't the lit up house the Human came out of. As he's walking along he notices a change up ahead. The fog seems to be lifting, slightly, in what would appear to be the center of the city. In much the same way light through the windows of the house pierced through the fog, light from a currently out of sight building is piercing through the fog up ahead.

At any rate, this light source is between the Human and the castle.

A window. With lights. Maybe that's the director's office? Besides, it's on the way to the Castle, anyhow.

The Human strides forwards to the lit-up building, intending to investigate it.

The Dwarf suddenly comes to, and begins stroking a non-existent beard.
"Well, Oi s'pose oi can't be sure, but oi really don't think zo zurr."

The Dwarf suddenly gets an idea. He returns to the bedroom and attempts to lift and shake the chest to try and determine if there's anything inside. Then the Dwarf will wait until the Drow has lit his lamp, and then light one of his own.

"Oh by the way, Mr. Wright zurr, you can call me Rook if'n you want."

Wright nods. "Good to meet you then, Mr. Rook. There is a shop across the square I did not get to search; now that we have fog scaring lights shall we go look at it? Then we can finish this place and deal with whatever is in the basement?"

He tops up the lamps with oil so they don't need to worry about them running out any time soon.

Then lamp in one hand and sword in the other Wright heads for the door and looks around. If the coast is clear he heads across the square to the shop.

The Human heads towards the light in the distance.

The Dwarf tries to lift the chest and shake it. It's a rather solid chest and heavy by itself, but he can definitely hear something thudding about inside.

The Drow tops up the lanterns and soon enough the pair have two full and lit lanterns that will burn for some time. The two exit the tavern into the town square. Across the street is the shop they plan to investigate. To their right lay the temple and further beyond the castle, standing tall and foreboding.

To their left, a small flickering light can be seen down the road. The source is small, but it stands out clearly against the background.

As the Human makes his approach, more light than before suddenly spills out into the central area the road is leading towards. Soon after, two figures emerge into view. Both are carrying lanterns, and one is wielding a large sword.

The Human pauses a moment, then walks forward, waving one arm (the one not carrying the candle) over his head. "Hey!" he calls out, trying to catch the attention of the first sign of living people he's seen since he woke up.

Maybe they're some late workers, just finished setting his place up? If he's messing up some sort of historical film shoot, then he will doubtless be yelled at, but the people doing the yelling will have a phone he can ask to borrow so that'll be a step up...
