Good enough, the Dwarf thinks.

He flops to his back, arms crossed under his head; The rock by his side.

He drinks the fog.

The Drow continues his examination of the area. Judging by the state of the stalls and most of the bodies, he's pretty sure that whatever happened here wasn't just a few years ago... it had to have been somewhere in the order of decades. Except, curiously, for the individual that held the dueling pistol and the creature atop them seem newer. This individual lost their life more recently, in the past couple years. Not decades. Long enough for flesh to rot down to bone, but not long enough to seriously damage the items on the body. This explains why the pistol is in such good condition, compared to the weapons and armor on the other bodies.

The individual's clothing is finely made and, though hard to tell through the years of damage and neglect, subtly different from the clothing of the others around. This person might not have been a local. A hard line stands out against the fabric, partially hidden by the bones of the creature laying atop the body. Rummaging inside the individual's coat, the Drow finds a wooden box filled with lead bullets and the tools necessary to load the pistol. Below the box, tied to the waist, is a stoppered leather skin. Examination of the skin reveals it to be a watertight container for gunpowder.

Survival: +3, Roll: -3, Total: +0

The Drow examines what remains of the food. He can't make heads or tails of what he's looking at. It could be dried meat, or a loaf of bread, or it could simply be a rock. He has no way to tell. The husks disintegrate under his fingers as he picks them up. He can't tell what the seeds are, just that they're the only uncontained items that seem to have survived. He's not sure if eating them would be to his benefit or detriment.

Below one of the food stalls, however, the Drow finds something interesting. A number of shattered clay jugs lightly covered in a brown sticky substance. He'd passed them by earlier, but on a closer look he sees another clay jug wedged firmly in the back. It is wax stoppered and has a picture of a honeycomb on it. Lifting the jug, it has some heft to it. It seems full, though there's no sloshing or change of weight to indicate the contents are anything but solid.

The Dwarf opens his mouth and spends some time trying to drink the fog.

The fog, being made of air (moist air though it may be) stubbornly refuses to be drunk.

The Dwarf isn't exactly thirsty as of yet, but if he was thirsty he'd have to be at this for a long time before he was sated, if indeed he even was sated at all.

The Dwarf quietly exits the temple. He looks around the building looking for signs of water and or edible things.

The Drow smiles when he sees the pistol, quietly thanks the dead fighter for it, then gathers it up with the various supplies that go with it. He also takes some of the better pieces of linen he can find to make a bag or a pack since it's rather strong stuff even if somewhat worn, and all but immune to water damage. Finally he takes some wood, and if he can find it will take a small metal can or box of some kind from among the various tools (copper, tin, one of their alloys or silver; he doesn't really care how corroded so long as it can be opened). He'd be shocked if the looters, however casual, didn't make off with anything gold. And if he can find the wicks from the broken lamps he grabs them; especially if they're partly burned.

The honey, as he assumes it to be, will get wrapped in some of the cloth and put in the sack along with the 'good' lamp. And if it isn't too badly rotted, he'll take the dead outsiders coat. It's cold out here. All that done, he starts trying to make his way towards the castle; it seems the path of least resistance for now.

The Dwarf exits the temple and enters what looks to be some kind of town square. A small, paved circle where three main roads seem to come to meet. One road goes behind the temple to the left of the Dwarf. One road goes behind the temple to the right of the Dwarf. One road stretches off into the fog directly across from the Dwarf.

In the center of the square is an old covered well. A crank attached to a rope leads down into the well. To the left of the Dwarf is what appears to be a tavern. Across the street from the tavern to the right of the Dwarf appears to be some kind of store. They're the only two buildings apart from the temple that stand out from the fog. The other buildings in the surrounding area are all heavily shrouded in mist and are hard to make out.

The city square, surrounding three roads, temple, tavern, and store are all covered in a Light Fog. Everything else that can be seen is completely Obscured. It's colder out here than it was inside the temple, and the Dwarf shivers with the decrease in temperature. The Dwarf is now cold.

The Drow gathers up what he desires. The flintlock is taken. The linens hold for the time being. A large piece is found that easily makes for a makeshift sack. Wood and a small box are easily found, and several wicks from broken lanterns are as easily acquired as well. The jug of what is presumed to be honey is placed inside the sack as well. There's no gold or coins to be found, but other than that it's readily apparent that almost no actual looting was done. The market square could likely stand to be picked through some more at a future time, should the Drow decide to come back.

The outsider's coat is horrifically stained and could use some cleaning, but as things go it's condition is not actually too bad. The Drow finds that wearing it, however, doesn't do much to abate the cold that he feels.

The Drow follows the road out of the market square, the castle beyond the fog to his left. It takes a good while of walking to get anywhere. With the fog obscuring almost everything in the distance it's hard to be sure of how far he's traveling, but by the ever so slightly shifting figure of the castle in the distance he can tell he's covering a bit of ground. The castle must not be too far off. Eventually the Drow comes to a fork in the road and the fog clears up somewhat. To the left the road looks like it leads directly to the castle. He can see what appears to be the castle's front gate in the distance, but it's hard to see with the Heavy Fog covering the gate and the road along the way. The fork to the right looks like it leads to (and past) some other kind of tall structure. Not as big as the castle, though. Perhaps a temple of some kind?

The road to the castle and the gate of said castle are covered in Heavy Fog. The castle itself beyond the gate is Dark and hard to see. Fog pours out of the castle gate into the surrounding area. The road leading to the temple and the temple itself are covered in Light Fog. The road back to the market square is covered in Light Fog. The Drow is still cold.

The Drow looks at the mist coming through the castle gate, shakes his head, and then starts towards the temple (or whatever it is). He's not sure if he wants to find other people, but better to find them than have them find him. Needless to say he examines the buildings he's passing; you never know what might leap out of one.

The Dwarf picks up a small pebble and drops it into the well, and listens for a splash. (He'll also look around for a bucket to attach to the rope.)

Once he's satisfied as to the existence of easily accessible water, he'll investigate the tavern.

This strange silence is spooky.

The human heads into town, trying to keep himself as silent as possible. After all, is everyone in an area is quiet... this often means that there's a reason for everyone to be quiet.

The Drow makes his way to the probable temple down the road.

Meanwhile, the Dwarf finds a pebble and drops it into the well. The pebble quickly fades into the darkness, but the Dwarf does manage to hear a satisfying splash as it connects to water. He doesn't immediately see a bucket nearby, but the rope is already lowered into the well. The bucket might still be attached. A quick operation of the crank, however, proves futile. The rope retracts without a bucket. It looks like the bucket might have been on it at one point, but has since rotted and fallen off into the well. A new bucket needs to be acquired.

With that in mind, the Dwarf heads toward the tavern. The door has fallen off its hinges and the place seems more than a little run down. Hanging over the door is a sign with faded lettering declaring the tavern to be the Light and Laughter. A warm and inviting name, but as establishments go it's just as run down as everything else you've seen. Directly across from the entrance is a bar, beyond which is a doorway that presumably leads into a kitchen. To the left is a rickety stairway leading up to the second floor. Walking past the bar to the right is what once might have been a rather cozy common area with tables, chairs, and a large fireplace for keeping the building warm.

Light Haze creeps in through the tavern door and windows. The Dwarf feels a little chilly.

The Human follows the road into town. Fog presses in from all sides, but the path down the road leading from the gate to the town is curiously lighter in mist than the surrounding buildings and what he saw beyond the wall. It's a long walk to the center of town. As the Human continues down the path, he notices an anomaly. Most of the surrounding buildings are Obscured by fog so thick as to be almost impossible to see through, but curiously enough a building coming up on his left is slightly uncovered and can be seen. It appears to be a residence. A two story house. The front door looks like it's been smashed in...

Light Fog covers the road and the house. The surrounding buildings are Obscured. The Human is cold.

After a bit of travel the Drow arrives at the structure that appears to be a temple. It's old and run down and appears to have the odd hole in the roof. He's approaching it from behind and sees no obvious entrance. The front of the temple looks like it goes up to a sort of town square. The Drow can barely make out a few buildings from where he stands. What looks to be some kind of store to his right, a tavern across from it, and a well in the center of the square.

Light Fog covers the area and the roads. All nearby buildings except the temple, tavern, store, and well are Obscured by the fog. The Drow is cold.

Fog... does not act like this. Therefore, this is not fog.

Unfortunately, the Human has no idea what this stuff is - or, at least, no ideas that wouldn't be better placed inside a science fiction novel.

Or... something Lovecraftian, if one wants to be really worried.

Still... if this is artificial... one shouldn't let the person running the set decide one's actions. The Human picks a random building on the right hand side of the road to explore. Maybe doing something unexpected will let him learn something about this place...

The drow quietly advances up the side of the building to see if he can make out what the rest of the buildings are when he reaches the front. He's got one hand on his sword. This visibility is starting to feel a bit selective.

The Dwarf searches the Tavern. Though he's really only interested in things that might be edible.

The Human turns to his right and begins looking for a building to try and enter. This is a more difficult proposition than it should be. While he can definitely see some buildings in the fog, Obscured as they are they're pretty hard to parse out from the dark grey covering his vision. The fog roils and shifts and glides in, out, and over the various structures and as it does so they keep fading in and out of view. It's hard to keep track of what is where, but after a few moments the Human makes out a shape that is definitely a door. He goes to open it, finds it unlocked, and goes inside.

The first thing he realizes as he passes into the thicker sections of fog is that it is Freezing, but beyond that it yields to his presence and he enters quite easily.

The building also appears to be some kind of residence, though it's hard to make out details through the fog. It appears to be some kind of common room. There's some furniture strewn about in disarray. A couple of windows to the right. An empty fireplace to the left. A candlestick with a thick candle rests on the mantel. A dark doorway across the room leads... somewhere. It's hard to see more than a few feet in front of you.

The entire area immediately surrounding the Human is Obscured. The Human is Freezing.

The Drow proceeds forward cautiously, sword at the ready. The area up ahead seems to be some kind of central area. A place for people to congregate in small numbers and attend to various needs. The temple, tavern, and well lend credence to that idea. The other buildings, hidden by the fog, might be similar. It's hard to make them out underneath the shifting, roiling mass of cloudy darkness, though.

A moment of concentration, though, and the Drow is able to make out some features despite the fog, indistinct though they may be. A large window here... a sign there... a random display... They have the appearance of store fronts, maybe? It's hard to tell without going into the fog and checking yourself.

The Drow's situation remains unchanged.

The Dwarf picks about the tavern in search of food. The common area has tables and those tables have plates and cutlery, but whatever was on the plates has long since rotted away to nothingness. The bar has a few dusty and empty mugs on it. Underneath it he finds a few barrels that might have contained the local drink of choice, but they too are empty. Best bet might be the kitchen, then.

The Dwarf enters the kitchen. It's seen better days, he's pretty sure. Cabinets doors stand wide open. Dishes and cooking utensils are strewn about the place. A massive pot whose contents have long since been ruined by the passage of time still sits upon the wood stove. Large bins that may have held vast quantities of vegetables sit empty (and are very very stained). A few hooks and spits for holding the carcasses of different kinds of animals occupy the walls and ceiling of one corner of the room. A collection of bones lays below the hooks, but one of the skewers still has a skeleton hanging off of it. They look to be mostly birds of various sizes.

A walk-in pantry to the left has a large number of jars, but most of them seem to have either been smashed or otherwise had the contents inside rot to nothingness over time.

Investigation: ?, Roll: -2, Total: -2.
Survival: ?, Roll: -1, Total: -1.

The Dwarf doesn't find anything that seems like it could be edible, unfortunately, though the kitchen seems like it could be used to prepare any food he does find if he's able to acquire any. Just needs a bit of cleaning. Maybe more than a bit...

One section of the kitchen hosts a trapdoor with a rusted metal ring for lifting it up. It looks pretty heavy. Across the kitchen from the entrance is another doorway that seems to lead into a small room. Maybe an office? The door is standing open and from where the Dwarf is standing he can see a desk with some inkwells, an old quill, and some tattered scraps that might have once been stationery.

The Dwarf's situation is unchanged.

The Dwarf will quickly examine the office. Then try to open the trap door.

This is suddenly freezing! But there's a fireplace.

The human looks around for any sign of certain things associated with fireplaces; to whit, wood, matches, and the various equipment necessary to make a nice, warm fire in the fireplace.
