"Oh, be serious. Locks in this larp are ridiculously primitive. Does anyone have a toothpick? Something else thin but strong, maybe?"

Humphrey starts looking around for something to pick the lock with.

In the mean time, Rook will go scavenge a furniture leg or something similar to try and make a club with his stone. He'll also ask Humphrey if he can use a length of his rope to bind the stone to the leg/handle.

Humphrey is unwilling to let go of a length of rope, on the basis that "we'll probably need to use it for climbing or something later. Can't you just hit stuff with the handle?"

Wright looks at the lock; it's a bit old fashioned but 'ridiculously primitive'? That human must come from some place interesting. Then he takes out a piece of linen, cuts it into usable strips, and hands it to Rook. "Here, these should do as well as rope. Flax is sturdy stuff."

Humphrey looks about and manages to find a few small bits and bobs that could maybe do the trick, though they're subpar for the task at hand.

Burglary: ?, Roll: -1, Subpar Tools: -1, Total: -2.

The lock holds. The door doesn't budge.

Rook sets about fixing himself a makeshift stone club.

Engineering: +1, Roll: -2. Total: -1.

He accidentally rips some of the old linen strips while trying to fix the stone to the handle and it clatters away. This might take some time, if he's of a mind to continue. He still has material enough to do the job.

Wright watches his new companions do what they do, then turns to Rook. "Master Rook, please be so kind as to let me try that. I think I see a good way to fix the stone to the handle."

Rook silently offers the stone and linens to Wright.

Wright assembles an improvised mace. If needs must he can use the sword to do a bit of trimming here and there.

Wright takes the supplies and tries to fashion something approximating a melee weapon out of them.

Engineering: +3. Roll: -1. Total: +2.

The result is a somewhat serviceable makeshift stone mace. A better weapon than simply swinging a rock around, for sure. It might not withstand the rigors of combat for a prolonged period of time, but it should hold up in the meantime.

Humphrey has another go at picking the lock.

Burglary: +2. Roll: +3. Subpar Tools: -1. Total: +4. Target: +2.

It takes him a minute, but after a while the motions of his hands start to feel more familiar. Instead of fumbling around he's deftly probing the internal mechanisms and, with a satisfying twist, opens the lock.

Wright hands back the mace and readies his sword. "Perhaps we can find you some proper picks eventually. So, shall we see what waits?"

"Sure," says Humphrey, backing away so that he's well behind the two that have actual weapons. "Whenever you want..."

In the fond hope there isn't a petard back there, Wright opens the door.

Wright goes to open the door and the group braces itself for what may come from the other side.

Nothing comes from the other side.

A few tentative moments pass and still nothing comes. A quick glance into the room from where the party is standing shows no obvious movement. The room itself seems to be some manner of sitting room. There are a number of shelves lined with books and a couple comfortable looking chairs. A couple of doors lead further into the area.

Wright enters the room and looks around. How neat is it?
