Nate frowns as he takes another shot, this time aiming for the mantcore's open mouth as it roars.

"That tears it. I'm gonna need a bigger gun!"

(Tag the ROAR aspect if there is one)

Nathan: Guns: +5 Roll: -1 Total: +4
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: -3 Total: +0

The bullet bounces off the manticore's thick skull, but it clearly feels the impact, stopping for a moment to shake its head before pressing the attack on Sir Ulath.

Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +1 Total: +4
Sir Ulath: Weapons +4 Roll: -1 Total +3

Sir Ulath manages to block most of the attack with his newly drawn axe, but it looks like it still hit hard enough to hurt. He presses his attack...

Sir Ulath Weapons: +4 Supplemental action (drawing weapon): -1 Roll: +2 Total: +5
Manticore: Claws +3 Roll -2 Total: +1

Though the creature ducks back from the axe swing, it is neither fast nor far enough, and Sir Ulath cuts a thin red line across the manticore's face.

Felix and Bevier quickly climb down the ladder, and are now within easy range of the Manticore. Sir Bevier draws his sword as he climbs down, and it is clear that he intends to charge into combat.

Damage: Manticore: OOOXXX
Sir Ulath: XOXOOOO
Nathan: OOOOOO
Felix: OOOOOO

Nate decides to try a bit of strategy and aims his next shot at the manicore's front leg. He hopes that the hit will cause it to drop to the side, giving Sir Ulath a shot at its neck.

(If I roll high enough to inflict a consequence, I'd like for Sir Ulath to tag it for free.)

Felix draws his rifle steadily and unhurriedly. He isn't as good a shot as Nathan is, so he'll need to take his time to aim nice and proper. The targeting programs built into his visor help, but they're no replacement for good marksmanship.

Felix lines up his shot and waits for opportunity to present itself.

(Felix will spend the round to apply the Taking Aim aspect on himself, which he will tag next round.)

Nathan: Guns: +5 Roll: +0 Total: +5
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: -2 Total: +1

Nathan beats the target by more than +3 on a manoeuvre, and gains overflow! In the next round, he may take one extra, supplemental action (may not be an attack or offensive manoeuvre) without taking the normal -1 penalty on his main action.

The bullet tears through the manticore's knee, causing it to stumble and present Sir Ulath with an opportunity which the trained knight immediately recognises

Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: -2 Total: +2
Sir Ulath: Weapons +4 Roll: -1 Total +3

The manticore's tail lashes out at Sir Ulath, but he dodges the deadly sting...

Sir Ulath Weapons: +4 Roll: +0 Free tag ("Stumble"): +3 (using Dirty Fighter stunt) Total: +7
Manticore: Claws +3 Roll +0 Total: +3

The haft of Sir Ulath's axe smashes into the same leg as Nathan's bullet had hit, doing it some more permanent damage.

Felix takes his time, taking careful aim at the creature.

Felix: Guns:+2 Targeting reticule: +4 Roll: +1 Total: +7
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +1 Total: +4

Felix gains overflow, and next turn may take one supplemental action (not an attack or offensive manoeuvre) without the normal -1 penalty

Sir Bevier takes a good swipe at the creature...

Sir Bevier: Weapons: +3 Roll: -1 Total: +2
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: -1 Total: +2

Sir Bevier does nothing more than shave off a few of the manticore's whiskers.

Damage: Manticore: OOOXXX Minor Consequence: Limping
Sir Ulath: XOXOOOO
Nathan: OOOOOO
Felix: OOOOOO

"A good idea, that..."

Felix takes his cue from Nathan and aims at the muscle group supporting the creature's wings. The last thing they need is a creature like this wreaking havoc aboard the ship, and it can't access any of the entrances if the muscles the wings are attached to can't support its body weight.

Felix fires, tagging the Taking Aim aspect he created. Hopefully any wounds in that area will keep the creature from getting aboard the ship or getting away to torment other people.

"That stinger looks to be trouble."

Nathan takes aim at the offending tail and cracks off another shot.

(Again, if a consequence is generated, I'd like for the knights to use it, for defence if needed, otherwise, for offence.

Nathan: Guns: +5 Roll: -2 Total: +3
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +2 Total: +5

For the first time, Nathan's shot misses, skimming past its ear and flying harmlessly off into a nearby tree.

Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +3 Total: +6
Sir Ulath: Weapons +4 Roll: -2 Total +2

The manticore, angered by Sir Ulath's attack on its leg, knocks across the chest with a paw, knocking him back...

Sir Ulath Weapons: +4 Roll: +0 Total: +4
Manticore: Claws +3 Roll +1 Total: +4

...though a rapid swing of Sir Ulath's axe doesn't do any immediate damage, it does make the manticore pull back slightly.

Felix fires a careful shot at the creature's wings...

Felix: Guns:+2 Targeting reticule: +4 "Taking Aim" aspect: +2 Roll: +1 Total: +9
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: -4 Total: -1

Wow.

...and his bullet tears straight through the membranous surfaces of both wings, rendering flight impossible.

Sir Bevier takes a good swipe at the creature...

Sir Bevier: Weapons: +3 Roll: +0 Total: +3
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +3 Total: +6

Manticore gains spin! The manticore has dodged sharply enough (beating the attacking roll by +3) that it gets a to apply a +1 or a -1 (whichever is most beneficial) on the next roll affecting it

Sir Bevier's sword swipe goes a little wide - he over-extends himself, and, for just a moment, gets in the way.

Damage: Manticore: OOOXXX Minor Consequence: Limping Moderate consequence: Flightless
Sir Ulath: XOXXOOO
Nathan: OOOOOO
Felix: OOOOOO

Felix presses the advantage. He tags the Flightless consequence and moves in for the kill, spending Fate points to tag the Limping and Taking Aim aspects if needed. Time for this beast to go down.

He aims for center mass, taking his best guess as to where the heart and lungs might be, and pulls the trigger.

Nate fires another round at the beast, more to distract it then anything else, and give someone else a clear shot at it.

(I'd like to use Guns as a manuver to place the Distracted aspect on the manticore, so someone else can use it, either Felix or one of the knights.

Nathan: Guns: +5 Roll: +0 Manticore's Spin: -1 Total: +4
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +2 Total: +5

Though Nathan's bullets pass near the manticore, it ignores them in favour of worrying about its wounded wings. Even the manticore realises that it is very much outmatched here, and it backs away rapidly from Sir Ulath.

Sir Ulath Weapons: +4 Roll: +1 Total: +5
Manticore: Claws +3 Roll +1 Total: +4

Sir Ulath, however, is having none of this. He steps forward in pursuit, striking at the beasts's head, but only cutting off the tip of one ear.

Felix fires at the centre of mass...

Felix: Guns:+2 Targeting reticule: +4 "Flightless" aspect: +2 Roll: +1 Total: +9
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: +1 Total: +4

...hitting exactly where he aimed at. The bullet tears through the manticore's body, doing some severe damage.

And then Sir Bevier steps up...

Sir Bevier: Weapons: +3 "Severe damage" aspect: +2 Roll: +2 Total: +7
Manticore: Claws: +3 Roll: -1 Total: +2

He takes a solid swipe at the same side as Felix's bullet had just hit, and manages to lodge his sword in the beast's heart. It falls over, and shortly stops moving.

Nate takes a moment to reload his gun before walking over to the knights to get a better look at the manticore.

"You think there will be any more of these things?"

"Doubt it," says Sir Ulath, leaning on his axe as he catches his breath. "Villagers."

Sir Bevier nods. "Yes, quite. This manticore must have moved into this part of the forest pretty recently, or the villagers would have mentioned it to us. I've heard of the occasional desperate warrior going one-on-one against a manticore and surviving, but it's not something that I'd like to face alone. Your average farmer? He'd have no chance. If this manticore had been here for any appreciable length of time, the villagers would have begged us to slay it before it took more of them."

"Well then, it's a good thing it came here first then, eh?" Felix claps Sir Bevier on the shoulder then moves closer to the Manticore, gingerly prodding it with the end of his rifle to make sure it's dead. "What should we do with the corpse? I've never been one for sport hunting, but I imagine it'd make a mighty fine trophy. Or maybe we should just bury it or burn it and be done?"

"Cook it," suggests Sir Ulath. "Cut off the tail first."
