This is the OOC thread for Zombie Dawn, since Kanjin though we should use one. I'll repost the OP from the first thread here.

Welcome to Zombie Dawn.

This is not my first campaign. Hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes by going and making a game out of the blue though.

Using a ruleset derived from the d6 game known from the Bay12 forums as Roll To Dodge, submitted actions will be resolved through the throwing of a d10, with the character's relevant bonuses or penalties added. It's a bit less the complex RPG systems this forum knows and loves, however, and a bit more of over-the-top action and gameplay.

For example, the result chart:
Quote:
10: Complete Overkill
9: Epic Success
8: Success
7: Success
6: Mediocre Success
5: Mediocre Success
4: Failure
3: Failure
2: Failure
1: Epic Failure

Fill out the sheet below to join!

Character Sheet:
Name:
Weapon: [scavenged]
Gear: [three pieces that you possess IRL]
Brief Bio: [please]
Aspects:

Characters gain bonuses and take penalties through a system called Aspect Ratio. Create two Aspects for your character, one Good and one Bad.
For example: Good Aspects would be...
Ninja [+1 to unarmed combat]
Scientist [+1 to science checks]
Personable [+1 to charisma applications]
Whereas Bad aspects could include...
Shortsighted [-1 to search]
Loudmouth [-1 to assisting others]
Weakling [-1 to ranged attacks]

To gain another Aspect, you must get a Complete Overkill three times, which could be potentially disastrous. You then choose another Aspect, one Good and another Bad.

I am letting up to four play at a time. Once the first four get their sheets in, the game begins. There's really no need for a separate ingame thread with a game like this, it's simple enough to the point of where meta and in-character tend to get mixed. If you believe otherwise... just inform me. Once someone is eliminated and probably turned to the living undead, the first person to post their sheet gets the spot.

Sound good?

Let's get on with it then.

Kajin: I'd like you guys to stick- it's a bit more difficult to run when you split the party- but it isn't necessary, and might not even end up being in character.

Do you have a large map of the game area planned or are you making up the map as you go along?

Yes. The map regions are plotted out to the extents of the city, the neighboring suburbs, several townships a few miles out, and the roads connecting it all.

Making a solo break for it in the middle of a zombie apocalypse? He is the lunch.

I suppose he'll have to find that out the hard way, eh? And yes, I've got mechanics for hundred-mile-long buffet lines of tinned human. Heh.

Fine. Guess I'll try and hold out in a nearby hospital. Or maybe the morgue. Those places should be safe during a zombie apocalypse, right?
...
Right?

On Topic: How do we get XP, and what precisely happens when we get enough to level up?

Getting a natural Complete Overkill, i.e. rolling an unmodified 10, gets you an XP. Overkills come with occasional... side-effects though. The description of it is "You are so successful at your attempted action that your situation is worsened by the outcome," which might involve Mal tearing through a horde of undead, screaming wildly and discharging three clips of ammo, subsequently attracting the attention of a nearby gang of Raiders. And then you guys are in a running firefight through some suburb's back streets. Fun stuff!

But yeah, when you level up, you pick both another good and bad aspect to add to your character. I may change that.

Hey Ross? We have two characters named John right now. Maybe it'd be a little less confusing if you started addressing my character as Smith from now on?

I figured you would notice that, but Skitz aggressively corrected me when I attempted to refer to him as 'Big'. If Smith is fine with you, I'll do so.

I'm seriously bad on the procrastination front, mates. Hypocrite. Just give me a bump if I get distracted.

We're all carrying our entire inventory around with us right now, right?
