"Master, what fools these mortals be. Allow me a final word with Earth." He turns around, his gaze not affixed to anything in particular.

He takes change from his pocket and drops it, "Goodnight worth. Goodnight Earth."
He looks to the sky, "Goodnight moon above the Earth. Goodnight night and the city of Perth."
He walks into the diner. "Goodnight Lee. Goodnight sea. Goodnight lions and goodnight O'Brian. Goodnight cement and goodnight agents."
He begins strolling back. "Goodnight lonely house and goodnight mouse. Goodnight work and goodnight rush. Goodnight everyone. Goodnight forests lush. Goodnight Dottie, whom I had to crush."
When he gets back to his master, he turns around once more and says, "Goodnight stars. Goodnight air. Goodnight Earth things everywhere!"
He turns to his master. "Take me to her, would you kindly?"

Lee's eyes grow wide when Cecil fires at the quaking O'Brien. The G-men are shocked for a moment as Cecil drags Lee away.

"Not exactly what I had in mind when I said I'd cover you," Lee says, stumbling into a run beside Cecil, unable to shake his iron grip.

Jones and Anderson run to the fallen Williams. Agnes and Cox pull their weapons and fire at the two running men.

"Stupid!" Williams gasps. "What are you doing? You might kill the Marked, you idiots! Run after them! Catch them!"

Agnes and Cox pursue Cecil and Lee.

"Well, at least that blowhard is buying us some time," Lee huffs as Cecil and Lee pass Richard, mid-soliloquy.

The willowy creature beckons to Richard. Richard enters the light with a wide smile. He is gone in a blink. The creature suddenly notices the chaos around him. He turns, a bit bemused...

Lee and Cecil reach the other beam.

"Quickly!" says the tall, thin creature in white. "Cecil! Oh, what a lovely name, Cecil! Come into the beam! Come, if you wish to help us free your people! I promise you, we of the Humanity Society want nothing but the best for your kind. Or at least to give your kind the choice to live as you wish. Will you join us?"

She holds out a hand to Cecil.

The willowy man sees the other beam of light. A high-pitched hiss begins, ripping at Cecil's senses.

"You lot!" the willowy man cries, its voice hitting all octaves. "How can it be? We will search the ships for you and Cull you!"

The beam goes red and blinks out.

"We haven't much time!" the creature in white says. "This is a pirated frequency! We need to go now!"

"I can't exactly go where you're going," Lee says, indicating Cecil's grip. "I am not Marked. Unfortunately, you will have to leave me behind with these fine fellows."

He waves a hand over his shoulder at Cox and Agnes, almost caught up to them.

For a moment, Cecil hesitates. Just an instant, evaluating the situation.

I hate missions with incomplete briefings

Then he lets go of Lee's arm. "I can't trust you -" he tells the willowy lady - "yet."

Nonetheless, he takes her hand. The pistol, in his other hand, points at the ground, not at anything in particular. Cecil's holding on to it more for the sense of security than anything else now.

If she's on the up-and-up, Cecil will work with the willowy lady. If not... he'll do all he can to get a warning home. One way or another.

Either way, Cecil's back on the job. Only this time it isn't Russian lines that he's going behind...

A wave of relief, happiness and determination rolls over Cecil as he takes the willowy woman's hand.

"Welcome, Cecil," she says. "Until next time, Agent Lee."

"Of course, ma'am." Lee touches the brim of his hat.

The beam flickers for a moment, then is gone, taking Cecil and the woman with it. Cox and Agnes catch up to Lee. He turns, hands up, .38 hanging on his thumb.

"I can walk, men," he says with a smile. They escort him to the fallen Williams. Jones is working on bandaging Williams's arm.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Williams sputters, wincing as Jones works on him. "You just sacrificed our children, Lee, you bastard! You of all people --"

"I of all people have learned that I will do whatever it takes to save this planet, sir," Lee says quietly, kneeling next to Williams. Agnes and Cox keep their weapons pointed at him. He searches Williams's pockets and pulls out a cigarette tin and a lighter. "The Humanity Society approached a number of agents including myself a month ago, asking for our help in recruiting those Marked left by the NTs in winning games."

He places a cigarette in Williams's mouth and lights it.

"So far, the HS has managed to collect many Marked by being careful: play the game as intended, follow the rules to the letter, try not to attract notice. This time, however," he places a cigarette in his own mouth and lights it. "I was a bit hasty," he says with a smile, blowing out smoke. "I was sure Dubois would choose a proper person to Protect, and today it would be a simple matter of picking the last Controlled from the bunch. But," he shook his head. "I did not consider human folly. So I called the HS a bit early, and had no time to warn them not to show. Of course, perhaps I could have waved them away. But, there Cecil was, former CIA! Well, to let a prize like that burn to a crisp..." He shrugs. "I did what I had to."

"And you'll see time for it!" Williams snaps. "Cuff him!"

"I don't think so, Williams," Lee says, smiling. Jones and Anderson pull their weapons on Cox and Agnes. The four men are in a standoff. "This goes much higher than you, I assure you. So, why don't we end this civilly. Take some leave, get that arm in working order."

He stands, nods to Cox and Agnes. They reluctantly return their weapons to their holsters. Jones holsters his own weapon and pulls Williams to his feet. Williams staggers a bit as he walks, glowering at Lee.

"Let's go," Lee says, nodding to the black Imperials in the parking lot. "We have many games to play, men. We haven't lost just yet."

Eight men in black suits enter two black Imperials. The sun is high as they drive from the barren town, one heading east, the other west, the dust from the vehicles the only sign of humanity for miles.

Richard Roberts will be back for the full RPG. I'm just hoping that Dottie and Jethro aren't too peeved.

I actually believed that there were no special roles, seeing as there were only six players.
