The newcomer can only fire once before Jan's body blocks the line of fire. Jan pulls the thing free and it seems to hang in the air, all teeth and clacking claws, beady eyes alight above a froth of spittle and blood, before pushing off Jan's chest, scoring the fabric of his coat, and launching itself at Gio's face.

The lights overhead buzz, throbbing, and the newcomer's gun seems to grow hotter in his hand.

"JAH!" Gio attempts to punch the little bastard out of the air.

Jan grabs for the little effer again as it goes for Gio.

Gio's fist connects with something scrabbling and wet, knocking the creature back from his face, and Jan's hands clamp down on the thing's body. It twists in the air, trying to claw or bite.

Jan bends down and holds the thing on the floor, and stomps whatever seems most like a head under one massive workboot.

The thing makes a satisfying crunch as his boot descends. It lies still.

Gio approaches the thing. "What. The f***. Is it?" He takes a closer look.

It looks like a cat-sized monkey with clawed hands and feet, and while its fur and the dark blood trickling from the smashed body appear to be organic, wiring can be seen through a tear in its skin.

"Alright. Spontaneous cult suicides and robotic monkeys. All we need are a couple of velociraptors and then s*** will have officially happened."

The newcomer holsters his laser pistol, and coils the power cord. He unbuttons his duster from behind his back, letting it cover his weapon once more.

"Is everyone all right?"

He checks on Joe, Jenny, and Fran.

FB hangs up the phone, having been busy giving the bad news to the doctor's husband, as he enters the kitchen after Gio's statement. "In what world do you live where this," he waves a hand to take in the ruined Shack and dead and dying bodies, "does not constitute 'sh*t'?"

"Jersey?"

FB sighs at the newcomer. "I'm going to send you to Detroit."

Fran and Clark are still crouched by Jenny, who is looking ashen and weak.

Joe sits up from where he fell on the floor, touching his throat gingerly. It looks raw but not seriously injured. He stares up at the group in horror. "They want me to tell them everything."

"My plane got delayed in Windsor once, does that count?"

Seeing that everyone is still breathing, the Newcomer looks around for a microwave to cannibalize for parts, and an old tin can.
