I guess the side effect of magical language lessons turned out to be apotheosis...oh well.
For what it's worth, I could never justify in my own head having Arkady's wife come along. Metagaming reasons, sure; but in character the two of them wouldn't be interested unless she suddenly got tagged by supernatural language lessons as well. There's simply too much work to do among the settlers.
