Eh, never mind. Maybe it is better this way.

I'm kind of working under the assumption that he's already all the way dead. If he is only mostly dead then the only reason I could think of to stop Sir Ulath would be Ghwerek's potential value as a subject for interrogation; he clearly knows something about magic and enchantment.

He will be all the way dead once Sir Ulath is finished with his head.
On any creature with less amazing healing abilities, he would be beyond the reach of first aid already. If a human with similar injuries were suddenly to appear in the middle of a major hospital, in the presence of several doctors who had been forewarned, the doctors would have a chance of saving his life.
For a Troll, though, if he's not beheaded, if the acid is washed off and he's left overnight, he can probably stab you in your sleep tomorrow.
...mind you, he does have an aspect "My Vengeance Is Eternal". And he is highly unlikely to feel charitable towards you.

Now where are my two fate points for my 'puny alien' trait?

You don't get FATE points when someone incorrectly guesses one of your Aspects. (Of course, the incorrect guesser doesn't get any advantage either)

Sure, he guessed Human. Silly troll, I'm an alien (or locally, a puny Terran). But the fate points for that still seem to be missing...

Arkady is a Terran, yes. If he had had an explicit Aspect called "Merely Human" or something along those lines, Ghwerek would have got his free tag on it and you would have got the (only one) FATE point in exchange.
Arkady has no such Aspect.

Actually I think you get an immediate free tag on an aspect you discover, even if it's just by guessing. Arkady would have received no points even if he did have an appropriate trait.

I'm not actually sure if there's sheet metal or not. We're short on space in the trucks as it stands.

Yes, but that would be repair supplies. if we find ourselves with a bullet hole or some such in the gassifier, we'd need to patch it or we're pushing the beast home.

Ghwerek would have got a free tag had he guessed successfully, yes. But if there had been an Aspect there to tag, then Arkady would still have got a Fate point for having his Aspect tagged. Since there wasn't an Aspect there, no Fate point. You have a very small amount of sheet metal in the trucks, as emergency repair supplies. (By Murphy's law, it's at the bottom, underneath everything else).

Before Felix does any surgery on the helmet, does machine gun ammo still come in metal ammo boxes?

That's reasonable, so sure! Ammo still comes in metal boxes. (You're supposed to be saving those boxes; any that you lose are going to be replaced by 3D-printed plastic boxes, because the Colony has better uses for metal at the moment)
