A few thoughts:
1. It's Mississippi, so I'm not very optimistic. It's not like Hyde-Smith is a child molester; politicians saying racist things is like an average Tuesday there. Would be a nice surprise if she lost.

2. Technically, Donald Trump doesn't learn lessons because learning implies a capacity for growth and change.

3. Mueller caught Manafort lying to him; there goes the cooperation deal. Man, Putin must really have his nuts in a vise. The question is whether Mueller actually needs Manafort's testimony to indict the bigger fish.

1. Yeah, in the words of a great singer
Nina Simone wrote:
...and everybody knows about Mississippi, G.D.!

However, there's also a large black population. So the three questions are:

How many of the hardcore racists turn out?
How many of the black voters turn out?
How many people are there who aren't in either category, and what will they do?

Also, and ironically, there is apparently a sizable contingent of the hardcore racists who never liked her in the first place. So there's also a question of whether they'll show up to support her (or at least vote against the black candidate) or not. One would assume yes, but who knows anything anymore...

2. No comment needed

3. Putin poisons people with Plutonium. In other people's countries. I'd be scared too...

The neo-Confederate will go to the Senate from Mississippi. Big shock.

As for Manafort, it's been suggested that he may have set Trump up to commit felonies for which he's going down. Since it's been known all along that Manafort's been lying, by feeding him the right BS for his lawyer to tell Trump then Trump's lawyers would tell provable lies in their written responses to Mueller (which Trump signed). Manafort as an unwitting double agent would do wonders for his thoughts that he's going to get pardoned.

You mean the theory is that Manafort was illegally coordinating with Donald Trump's lawyers, and Mueller knew this so he fed Manafort a bunch of bollocks to see if it turned up in Trump's written answers? Thereby getting Trump to commit perjury written down? It seems too tidy to be true, so I'm going to wait and see.

Reporters have picked up signs that an extremely high profile witness has been subpoenaed by Mueller's grand jury. Probably Donald Jr. if not Tiny Hands himself.

I read that the coordination between Manafort and Trump's lawyers was legal because Mueller didn't require that they not do that as part of the plea agreement. Because it would be all the more useful to him if they did cooperate.

Ok, things are still interesting. In fact, they might even be more interesting than they were a month ago, what with the worsening legal and political mess a Donald finds himself in.

But my current amusement is that Trump is claiming that lots of Federal workers want him to hang tough about his wall. Now technically I suppose it's true that his staff are Federal workers, and that they are all telling him to hang tough. And 'lots' is kinda subjective: one, two, many, lots, etc. Still, it's heartwarming to see how many of them are admitting it in public.

The Republican Party never really wanted to build the wall. If they had, they would have made it a priority at some point during the last 2 years. They're only interested in it as political cudgel. Now we have a shutdown over something that both parties know is pointless. Trump is like a toddler holding his breath until he gets what he wants. Unlike a toddler, the consequences fall on other people, so he can keep doing this forever.

So, I'm waiting anxiously to see if Trump is impeached today. It isn't looking likely right at this moment. The rhetoric has all switched from "they'll impeach Trump the moment they get the House" to "Oh well, they don't have the votes in the Senate anyway."

It's such rank hypocrisy. There are a lot of people *cough* Pelosi and Schumer, who are privately perfectly happy with Trump because he drives votes and donations in their direction...

The only voices I've heard saying Democrats will move to impeach the second they get the House were all Republican. Mueller hasn't even finished with the investigation yet and there's been dozens of convictions! There is no hypocrisy in allowing the process to work. Pelosi and Schumer are not 'perfectly happy' with Trump, because no amount of votes and donations can undo or prevent the damage a President is capable of inflicting.

I don't think it makes sense to impeach Trump before Mueller's report comes out. Sure, we know plenty of damaging stuff about Trump already, from emoluments to his fake charity to his mistress payoffs, but the Russia investigation is the Big Wahoonie. The Democrats haven't even had time to set up their own investigations or reveal everything that Devin Nunes was trying ot bury. Plus, everyone knows that impeachment is a political process, not a legal one. Until the Senate Republicans are willing to turn against Trump, it would just be bashing your head against the wall.

Trump's popularity has been declining by 0.1% per every day of the shutdown. Image

At this rate it'll be another 100 days before he breaks 30%.

Come on Mueller, do something!

The Mueller show has been temporarily pre-empted by the Cohen show. Yes, it's amusing to watch Trump call Cohen a liar, and despite the fact that Trump said it it actually seems to be true that Cohen is a liar; but a direct accusation of multiple felonies by his accomplice in said crimes does somewhat raise the stakes.

Mueller disputes the BuzzFeed story about Trump instructing Cohen to perjure himself, without making it clear exactly which parts he disputes. Curiouser and curiouser.

Although the one about Trump telling Cohen to bribe pollsters with a Walmart bag of cash has got to be bad enough already, right?

If it were a Tiffany's bag his mindless minions might be up in arms; but Walmart? Sure, why not.

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of disaster Trump is going to cause that finally makes the Republicans in the Senate read him the riot act. Hopefully a lot of folks won't get killed, but it's not like said Republicans care about that on any but a PR level. And unless it's white folks in flyover country, Trump doesn't even care that much.
