I'll state the case that it'll help me forge connections that could potentially get me some information that would help our allies and ourselves if I had at least a small sampling of tools, but I can make do with spices and furs. Would David be willing to part with inconsequential vanity items like hand mirrors? Maybe some spare clothing? If he can't trade food wit farmers he can do the next best thing and trade coin with nobles.

You have certainly heard of this, yes. The Church Knights disapprove of the practice, but have not yet being able to stomp it out completely.

Probably the best nearby (on-site) people to ask about finding Styric villages are Piper and Zalasbra. Which of them will you speak with on this matter first? (Or would you rather take some other option?)

Piper is probably the easiest to find and get directions from. After that, some quick scouting around (possibly using an autogyro) should get a fix on the nearest village.

It occurs to me we could offer to teach the villagers how to read and write in exchange for stuff. David ought to be happy with that, since it literally costs us practically nothing. Although I suppose it's possible no one would be interested.

We could offer to teach their kids occupations that would do them better than farming, or even teach them to be better farmers.

Better farmers will probably have to wait until we have our own dirt farm up and running. Farmers are intensely conservative; until we can point to something better in their terms they're not likely to bet the farm on us. That said, once we do have something to point to we can probably help them a lot.

Though with that said we could probably make some money selling better-than-what-they-have farm machinery and tools that they could easily grasp; early industrial revolution type stuff.

I'll look into securing a supply of iron. Felix can make them himself if he has too, and charcoal is simple enough to make. Steel tools will fetch weeks of rations per tool.

In-game, how long has it been since we secured a deed to our land?

Glad you're fine, btw.

Hmmmm... several weeks. Almost a month now, I think?

Given the speed at which horsemen travel, you're probably going to need a copy of the deed if you want to prove your claim to anyone outside the city of Cimmura. Fortunately, you have a copy at hand, and, better yet, a genuine Church Knight who is willing and able to swear to the veracity of your claim to the land. Why do you want to know?

Three months before we need to start paying taxes and we don't have much in the way of trade or production yet.

Oh, there's production alright. Those hydroponics farms are producing like anything (in fact, they're steadily producing slightly more than one would generally expect). It's just all being used internally, getting more people woken up.

Reminding him about the taxes will put David into a really bad mood. (It's not as if he's forgotten them, he just doesn't like the idea of having to slow down the establishment of the colony).

It happened off screen after the charge of the Fanatics and before Nate was possessed by the Damork. Basically, Nate was told the locations of a few places Martel had been to recently-ish by the same Mook who gave up what ship his Boss had hired in Rendor. I figure most are probably dead ends, but we might get lucky.

Nice. We can chart our course accordingly.
