Hey! I haven't made a thread in a while! NEAT!

When we upgraded the system we used a brilliant automated system to upscale every comic to the new big and beautiful size. While that system was near perfect, there were occasional mistakes. It’s taken a while but I think I caught them all! However, I am a big dummy.

So now is the time for all you loyal Sluggite Archive Divers to let me know if you spot anything I missed. IF YOU DO, please send a link and/or description below. I will do my best to keep on top of that pile. And if I did my job right, it won't be a very big pile!

SIDE-NOTE: We’re specifically looking for conversion-error comics, not typos. We’d be here another 20 years trying to fix all of those! ;)

Here’s a link to a News Story that gives a couple of Conversion-Error Comic examples:

I am not sure it has been signalled before, but all of the "Meanwhile in the dimension of..." by McDonald seems to still be of the smaller size. I don't know if other sizes exsits and it's the only one available, though.
Don't know if links are needed there, but just in case
MItDOP started at

And went up more or less every Saturdays
(so better use the calendar archive, I guess http://archives.sluggy.com/calendar.php )
and ended there:

Thanks Guigui! Basically what the system did was take the low res old format comic by date and locate it's hi-res match which was arranged by book page. I don't have high-res copies of many works by other artists (although I do have some). MitDoP suffers from that.

Ian can't be of any help for that, though? And was MitDoP not printed in the book, or were the pages just expanded?

That made me curious. I checked, and what's in the book is higher quality than what's on the site. If worse comes to worst, Pete could scan the pages from the book and put them on the site. Though possibly that could be a copyright problem if he did that...

Actually that's a really good point. I should be able to pull the MitDoP strips from the book pdfs. This isn't a quick 'fix a lone comic' thing, this would be more of a project, so it would be after the next book. But I'll put this project on my to do list!

Two little issues that can be quickly done:
on the last anniversary strip
http://archives.sluggy.com/book.php?cha ... 2017-08-25
The link to the 19 anniversary strip doesn't work properly(it send to the first comic, instead)

For the other one, I know you said "no typo", but it's not in a comic itself. I use the last version of Firefox with Windows 10 and I see some character issues appear with the text accompanying the flash comic of the 5th anniversary:
http://archives.sluggy.com/book.php?cha ... 2002-08-25
The letter "Â" appear randomly.

I don't know if you use a website editor or directly code all in HTML, but a quick edit should fix those two thing.

Just to know, have you planed a time to properly resize the animated gif, or is it still set in an unplanned future?

Also, out of curiosity, did rereading the whole archive to spot the issues helped you in the planning of your current and coming storylines, or was your focus too much on fixing the archive for that?

Not a conversion error, but this strip refers to inserting links at "the appointed time," which I suspect has passed. It also talks about the in-process archive clean-up.

I guess the "Sluggy Freelance, where are you" intermission suffer from the same "smaller size" issue, then:

garyfritz: yeah that note needed a lot of cleanup. Done now. I honestly can't remember what the withheld ref link was. it might have had to do with who the sniper was but fear of spoiling the upcoming reveal? I think it's good now, thanks for noting it!

GUIGUI: Fixed those two errors! on to your questions...

Yes, going through the archives helped plan the current story. Always does. I have so much of this planned out in my head but sometimes I lose the nuanced details along the way and they're fun to call back to and make use of!

Yes, some old comics are lost to time. I suppose we could auto-enlarge them. But we can't pull them from hi-res files.

Similar to that, the animated comics were animated at web-sized though the art is hi res. Reanimating them from the hi-res is a project I'm not ready to commit to. It' be a lot more time and work than pulling MitDoP from pdfs. Nothings impossible though. Maybe after I catch up on a LOT of books! ;)

The strip for September 14, 2011 appears to be smaller than all the other strips around it (e.g. the ones for September 13th and September 15th). I suppose some hi-res artwork could just be missing for that particular strip, but it seems odd that everything else in that chapter appears to be full-size.

Several instances of garbled text in chapter 59's references.

http://archives.sluggy.com/book.php?cha ... 2008-12-03 - "Daedalus “We will rise from the ashes”"

http://archives.sluggy.com/book.php?cha ... 2008-12-05 - "Daedalus Oasis Slaughter Tracking System (Panel 8)." "Schlocks nanites." "Schlock protects his nanites from Aylees EMP." "Riff mentions to Torg after this flashback about Shocks with the Mark 19."

http://archives.sluggy.com/book.php?cha ... 2008-12-12 - "Reference link on Reynold Strom a.k.a “Nash Straw” aka “Warren Nashville”"

Etc. Etc. It continues throughout the chapter.

Looks like apostrophies were replaced with , open quotes were replaced with “, and close quotes were replaced with ”.

The text mentions the backwards signature in Panel 1, but the signature itself is missing (presumably a lost layer).

Panel 5: Minion Master's text is gone.

I'm not sure, but... didn't Kusari say something in her first panel, row 4?

Agreed. Should be:
Minion Master icon: MESSAGE ACKNOWLEDGED Sam! It is good to see you. Stay safe!

No, she did not.
