Some kind of RSS notification system would seem to be pretty important if the site is only being updated irregularly in future.

Add me to the list who wants an RSS feed back, especially since there will be intermittent updates, and because navigation doesn't currently have a calendar I can click on.
(Or even just an e-mail when a new strip is posted would be fine... I'm not picky.)

Adding myself to the list of people confused by the new pledging system and what it is exactly that we're getting for pledging.
What are these new Pawnz? Are we getting 3D printed models shipped to us? Or by "3D models" does Pete mean the little pannable animations you get when you log in? I'm just so confused about them!
As mentioned by others, I'm also feeling deeply uncomfortable with the intense variability inherent in pledging for anywhere between 0 and 12 strips a month. That's fine at $0.50 per strip, but I'd love to support Pete more than that, particularly if low support leads to less strips coming out. On the other hand, committing to, say, $8/strip sounds terrifying if that turns out to be 144 strips a year (8x12x12 = $1152/yr - well over my annual sluggy budget). What's a loyal sluggite to do?? Can one change a pledge level later? (Change up, change down?)
I'm somewhat comforted by the fact that 300 people have already pledged which presumably means Pete will get at minimum $150/strip...? Which hopefully means Sluggy will stay alive...?
It also seems that I've already missed the chance to grab the Valerie Pawnz because I was just waffling due to not really understanding what exactly is going on. Or have I?

I changed my password and I'd like to make sure I can get back in with the new one, and while I can always spin up a private-mode window or clear cookies or whatever, it seems like there ought to be a way to log out of the site.. am I just missing it? I couldn't find one, but to test your password, just go into incognito mode and visit the site, if your browser offers that function. If you hover the mouse pointer to over your name, there is a logout option.

Another feature that would be really great: Adding redirects for old comic links because there are years and years and years of links to comics floating around on the web that are now dead.

This is still bugging me. There's a problem with the menu bar in the forum, but the main site one is fine. When you scroll up, the bar comes down, but it's too far to the right (by 11 pixels). Then as you get closer to the top it "snaps" into place and moves over to where is should be. And that "snap" is jarring as the bar forces its way onto the top of the forum page and pushes everything down. You can definitely see this when scrolling up slowly. Also you should really think about making it much clearer on the pledge pages that people are only going to be charged a maximum of 12 strips per month. Some are not pledging because it's not clear. It should be stated right at the top. And why isn't PayPal an option? Not everybody has credit cards. ramoss wrote: If you hover the mouse pointer to over your name, there is a logout option. It's there now, but it wasn't there for the first few days.

Hey, I see post history searches are working as expected again! Just in time for me to gloat about being almost right about something! Clearly the most important reason to use it :P
Zill - now that you mentioned that, I can't unsee it. Damn you!

Loving the bookmark functionality in the archive, however I might have come across a bug. I used my 20+ defender bookmark on the comic for Book 7, Chapter 23, 2001-04-02-9, and when I click on the link it takes me there, however the bookmark doesn't show over the comic, so I've been unable to click it to take it off this comic - I've not had this problem anywhere else so far.

On the old system, the defender login kept me logged in (as a defender) no matter what. But the forums would only keep me logged in for a few days max. I managed to get through to Friday this week without having to relog in, so I thought, "yay, this "keep me logged in" thing really works now! Siiigh. No, it does not. Navigation improvements must take priority - but once navigation is fixed can we have a "keep me logged in" feature that really does that? Yodimus_Prime wrote: On that note, is there still a way to navigate by date, or does it only go by book-chapter-subchapter now? Kind of. Until they set up the ability to view one strip at a time with a calendar to go with it (and my understanding is that they are?), a date query will still call up the book-chapter-subchapter to load, but will at least "pin" it to the requested date - that's why NiftySearch will work (even with the old urls), and how Pete can still have the ability to post his links at the bottom of his comics that lead to specific strips in the past. The new url for date navigation is http://archives.sluggy.com/daily.php?date=YYYYMMDDYou have to, of course, fill in the year, month, and day... Not sure if this will change if they give us the ability to view one strip at a time, but for now that's it. Edit: OK, was not expecting that url to produce a link since I did not it, but if you click on it, it will take you to the beginning of time... Ha! I did not expect it to actually be a navigable link...

Okay, checking in again!
Lots to report, and some things might not get addressed. There's been a tendency with the team to say, "okay, we'll post a Captain_20plus update after we fix X, add Y, or tinker with Z." But I think we'll just post what we have done. I promise we're reading and working on everything, whether it gets mentioned or not.
First, about 2/3 of the legacy Defenders of the Nifty accounts with subscription time left have been linked with a login on the new site and been awarded Level 1 status and benefits for the duration of their subscription. The other 1/3, we're working on a solution where you can auto-identify yourselves as active Defenders by logging in to the old DotN system and saying "it's me!"
Moths Pawnz and Valerie pawn pushed out to all D20+ accounts.
The auction is back. This was a surprising pain. It worked and was tested and deployed on the old site. On the new, it threw some fits. (Because the auction disappeared for a week, we're seriously considering extending the final day past Sept 7. Decision on that soon.)
Larger and WAY BIGGER strips are now up and working for logged-in subscribers at the appropriate levels.
Applied some improvements/fixes to navigation menu, including making the mobile "hamburger" icon stick and fixing that 10 pixel jump that @Zillatain mentioned. (Nav menu is still being worked on and this is not the final design and functionality.)
Bookmarks now load on the "recaps" strips in the archives.
Placed bookmark locations now show up immediately in your profile (delay found and eliminated).
Old strip URLs with the "sluggy.com/daily.php?date=" format now resolve to the appropriate strip in the new archives.
New users get the nine classic Pawnz as soon as they log in.
Forum smilies are back.
Lots of other minor tweaks, tests, precautions and additions.
Currently focused on (among other things):
- Inflatable coins to DotN subs
- Comic creation, main page customization, various dashboard/control things for Pete
- Ad behavior in archives
- Playset unlocks for completing a book
- Various hosting, bandwidth, and performance tweaks
- Fixing a bug where the site unexpectedly logs you out
That's probably not all of it, but it's enough for now. Please keep the reports and observations coming, they are very helpful!
