Yay for lurking!

I've always wondered- why do people make online journals? I can't have one just because I need to have some sort of point to my journal. Ramblings and updates about my life seem kinda pointless when addressed to an audience who probably doesn't even read it. I understand private and friends-only journals, but not the open ones.

Nearly all my entries are open because a few people I really want to read my journal (because I either want them to know what i"m thinking, or I want them to know I'm picking on them) don't have lj accounts, so if they're going to see it, it has to be completely public. I never say anything I wouldn't mind the whole world knowing though.

Why yes, yes I am a bit of an exhibitionist.

Baethan, I don't know about other people, but I assume only people who know me will read my journal. It doesn't need to be private because it is not interesting to those who don't know me. I don't see a reason to impose a lock on something that no-one is going to steal. And if someone reads it who doesn't know me; how is that going to hurt me? It will only bore them, and that's their problem, not mine. My journal is addressed to my friends, and the fact that others may read it does not change the audience I have in mind.

I pretty much follow anaea's tactics. There are a few people out there without LiveJournal accounts who read my blog, so I try to keep a fair number of my entries public so that they can read and comment if they wish. If I post about something particularly sensitive then I'll make it friends only, of course.

I think blogs were initially intended as a way for people to share news and opinions, and there's still plenty of those around, but nowadays blogs tend to be just public diaries. Mine is totally boring to anyone who doesn't know me, and that's fine.

On the other hand, being totally public can definitely be a dangerous thing. I know people who've gotten in trouble with their superiors or were even fired because their bosses Googled them, found their blogs, and found some rather scathing comments written there!

Yep, mine's as my webpage.
Most of my entries are public because I never reveal anything that I don't want people to know. Most of it's boring rambles, random weird stuff (slug porn and Cthulhu) and photographs (scenic New Zealand).

My journal's also mostly public, mostly because my boyfriend reads it (and does not have an account.) Also, quite a few real-world friends managed to find my account through other friends pages, so I keep it available.

I've got one of those LiveJournal things, too. It's down there with the button. I mainly use it to keep track of other, more interesting people, though.

I know I'm late. :P But I too have a my own live journal. It's mostly just self indulgence, but hey, that's what they are for, no?

I generally add back if I realized I have been added to someones friends list. I will sometimes even leave people comments. :P

I like to just randomly read people's blogs. My LJ is too stoopid to be posted here, it's just a bunch of random quizzes and ramblings. I think that I'll link to my MySpace once I get that set up.

Online Journals?

It's the journal of the African Seabird Group, the Pacific Seabird Group (PSG), the Australasian Seabird Group, the Seabird Group (U.K.), and the Dutch Seabird Group. Fun bed-time reading.
Oh, wait, you mean a blog, right? I may have one. hehehe Not telling though.

I used to have a Xanga, but abandoned that. Now I just have a LiveJournal which I update regularly.

It's just my random rambling and stuff.

I have a livejournal, but I never update. I have the livejournal solely because I made one for RP-purposes (the Witch-King of Angmar, if you must know), and the folks I was RPing with insisted I get a real one for me. So I did. I don't RP there any more, though, so both my real journal and my Angmar journal sit idle these days.

I might post another review of the Extended RotK as Angmar once I actually see it. That'll be fun.

If you really feel like reading either, you can either guess the usernames (good luck on my "real" journal!) or you can ask. It's not all that interesting, though people have been known to laugh at Angmar's.
