So, the Site Admins have decided to get rid of the fairly useless feature.

Opinions? I agree with Thyla's reasoning, orginall it 'sorta' gave a sense of senority in terms of how active someone was, but when we hit PC of 3000 with people who have been here less then a year, Spamming, if even done innocently, would seem to be a problem.

Thoughts?

But how can we measure our value as human beings now? Bah! :bert:

Hey! Was that a burn? :torg:

That's one of the great things about Sluggy.net; its progressiveness. No longer are we tied down by the shackles of post counts, in a world where we're increasingly being identified by numbers. Or something like that.

*err, I mean fthg42.

...Seriously. No post counts is a good thing.

Personally, despite my jokes on earlier threads, this is a WONDERFUL idea. Go Staff!

I do wish we could soemhow keep the posts per day statistic however... I used it as a measure of how much time I could have been studying or, when not up against a test, just how much of a freak I am.

In MY humble opinion, I always thought the most useful measure of a persons activness was a 'Last Ten posts' That would give a date of the oldest of a person last ten posts.

That way you would know if somone shows up and hasn't posted in 2years, version someone whoes posted 10x in 2minutes.

All good ideas. Might we also replace the post count statistic with "Banner ads clicked?" That might encourage a little friendly competition that would actually help the site!

I don't know if this is possible, but could the mods perhaps replace the numbers in post counts with random words?

I mean, I'd rather have my post count say something like 'Post Count: CROTCH!' or 'Post Count: Wibble!' then 'Post Count: 1462' or something.

The only accepctable number for them would be 42. And if you have to ask why...tsk, tsk.

Well, this is great. Now I don't have to worry about getting my post count back up near 1000! I can spend my time doing something useful, like playing FFX or WoW.

This is a great idea, especially with this unveiling of the new boards. You could really tell that people were seeing the post count reset as their chance to get into the top ten.

it's cool with me. I didn't have a large post count compared to the time I've been here. I tend to lurk quite a bit.

Go Thyla!

I will confess that there is a small, immature part of my brain yelling, "Hey, I've been working on that post count for almost a year! Now not only am I reset back to zero, but I can't even see what it is?!?"

That's a very, very small part, though. The rational, mature part says that this is a good idea and I'm glad they've done it. Though I do agree that I'll kind of miss the posts-per-day" stat. Looking at Queso's posts-per-day before The Great Board Reset was educational, to say the least.

Woo! Now I don't have to worry about turning my vague, once-or-twice-a-week posts into a somewhat monstrous 1000+ thing again! I'll just go back to huddling in a corner and whispering "join dates equal social status" over and over again.

Lets face it... there's only three ways to truly judge your social status.

1 - Amount you can imbibe
2 - How crazy you are.. espeacially as pertaining to Sluggy
3 - How many theatre shows you've crewed

From 3.. Sorceress and I WIN! BOW DOWN BEFORE YOU GODS SLUGGITES!

What about me? I'm a techie, too!
[Snooty]Crewing any theater show automatically puts you up higer in social status to begin with.[/Snooty]

Personally, I don't really care either way about the post counts. I was #1 for a breif time on Sunday, I'm happy. I personally didn't even notice that they were gone until I saw this thread!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Now I have to count all of my posts by HAND!! Do you know what this means??

Not very much, really. Mostly it means I'll still be late in doing stuff I'm already late in doing.

But still... NOOOO!!!
