Twitter's blowing up right now.
The new Miss America is of Indian descent, which I think is awesome. But predictably, her crowning kicked off a hailstorm of racist tweets. Apparently, a lot of folks on Twitter are unaware that the winner is, in fact, a US citizen; that she is not Muslim (not that that should matter); that India is in southeast Asia, not the Middle East; and that Obama did not have a vote. Come on, folks, a person isn't a terrorist just because they're brown.
Somewhat more legitimate are the concerns that Miss Kansas lost because she is conservative, a sergeant in the US Army, an enthusiastic hunter, and her swimsuit bared a couple of tattoos. It's no secret that the Miss America pageant judges skew liberal, and a number of people feel this hurt her chances.
Please, America, can we leave our bigotry at the door when we objectify women?

Also happens that gun-toting, butt-kicking and tattoo-wearing are not seen as traditionally ladylike activities. And yes, stupid people are stupid. I'm not sure whether I should be glad or disappointed that none of those racists were smart enough to make an outsourcing-beauty-to-India joke.

If it makes anyone feel better, Russia had a similar problem with the crowning of Miss Russia looking "too Asian".
So, racism keeps the world a turnin'!
