And upon further thought, I have to ask: why the <bleep> do we always have to be the LAST DAMN COUNTRY to move forward on issues of civil rights? What the hell is wrong with us?

We were the first major country to let women vote. We were the first major country in the second millennium to institute a democratic form of government. Can your hyperbole, FB.

*looks up the definition of hyperbole* Oh, so that's what it means.
But yeah, we're probably the last country to move forward on civil rights because the people in this country don't care about civil rights. People complain all they want, but at the end of the day they don't care enough to actively get out and do something about it. That's why nothing ever gets done.

time to tear the wall down further and go with taking the male/female symbols from the rest room doors and have co-ed basic training dorms.

No sir. We want a homogeneous fighting force. One where a soldier should be able to fill in when another falls no matter the sex, creed, color, etc. In order to do that all training needs to be equally applied no matter what any of the above items are. To that end, all minimum requirements also need to be equal. There should be no separate rules based on any group. I hail this decision as hopefully a step in that direction.

Homogeneous? Sounds like a really bad idea to me.

I have been preaching this for ages. It'd be nice if someone would listen. I'm there with you. When women get lesser requirements then men I call foul. If we are expected to do the same jobs then we should have the same requirements to meet. In all honesty, why aren't the equal pay for equal work crowd up in arms over that? (Just for the record, I agree that people in the same jobs should get paid the same for the same work. I mean that would be real bs to pay people less based on sex.)
