My impression was that while he says "governments change," he's saying that the essential nature of government does not. That the same government that allowed your great-great-grandfather to be enslaved and that was willing to tolerate unethical medical experiments on your grandfather will screw you over in a heartbeat because it's untrustworthy by nature.
To some extent, that's even true. But I don't think encouraging American blacks to distrust the system even more than they already do will improve the lot of American blacks.

Oh, I saw that. And his congregation has to know that there's a very real chance that one of their number will be the next president of the United States.
But what's Wright going to do if Obama wins? What kind of sermons was he giving back in, say, 1993, when Clinton was in the White House and Congress wasn't dominated by a clique of the sworn enemies of his people?
That's what I'd like to know. If he really does change his tune when the government isn't hostile to blacks, then I'm not worried about the social consequences of what he's doing. Except for the conspiracy theory stuff like the HIV rumor and the Pearl Harbor rumor.
