Author Samuel Delaney has been awarded Grand Master status by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers' Association. I'm a bit surprised that it didn't already happen.

Everyone who's got one, what's your favorite thing of his that you've read?

For me, it's got to be Empire Star. It's involuted, but short enough you can get through it multiple times without it becoming a major project. Not like, say, trying to reread Cryptonomicon to get the nuances, which I don't think I'm going to do.

I also read Babel-17 (back to back with Empire Star), The Einstein Intersection, and The Stars in my Pocket like Grains of Sand.

It's about time. I've actually been on a Delaney kick recently. I like The Einstein Intersection and Babel-17 is fun, but Dhalgren is far and away his masterpiece --one of the most brilliant works of literature in any genre written at any time.

I just remembered he wrote Tales of Neveryƶn. Forgot about that for a bit. That was also good.

I'll have to find Dhalgren some time.

Fair warning- Dhalgren is... dense. It's thick and heavy, and if you don't pay attention, it'll totally lose you. It's not Finnegans Wake, but it isn't a book to be read casually. That turns a lot of people off, but if you're the kind of person it turns on, then boy, are you in for a wild ride.
