And I'm happy about that.

We've just dropped into the month of Deep Freeze. It's forcast to stay below -10ºC (7ºF) until around march 4th. It has in times past dropped to -40 without windchill, and I would be vastly suprised if it did not do so again this time around.

Woke up to a good three inches of snow on the ground.

It's snowing. Again. Apparently, the weather has decided to make up for all of the not snowing we had all winter

Also, it's cold. Fourteen below zero for most of my route today.

Wait, you in Boston? Since when you in Boston?! I in Boston!

It has been, by estimation, a lot colder than last winter, but I've been coping with it better --last winter was my first year biking with snow on the ground*, so by the time it started to get cold this year, I could skip the experimentation rounds and just launch straight into "here is what I need to be wearing". I've pretty much just kept my face entirely covered (thick scarves, fleece neck torus, and ski goggles) every time I've been outside for the last three months.

Luckily, our house has been okay. Just moved in September to a place that takes oil heat (expensive!) instead of gas or electric though, and that's been killing us --the house is as warm as we need, but the bills are terrifying.

All that being said, I'm pretty much done with the snow now. I want to be able to actually hang out outside long enough to give my bike a tuneup, and not feel futile about it because the snow-ice-salt combo will just destroy any good I do almost immediately.

MOOP!

*the winter before it didn't snow, the winter before that I just didn't bike, and the winter before that was those strange pre-bicycle days.

It was temporary. I'll be up again next week though, visiting scholar at Northeastern University again.

I don't yet know where I'll be staying.

...

Unreasonable request mode engage! :kiki:

If you're near the T, can I crash? Will pay.

... Speaking of which, anyone in Denver around here?

Colorado Springs here, about 60 miles south. If we had our own place I'd say come on down, but we live with the hubby's grandmother

Ad it's snowing! I'd offer, but every bed and couch in the house is occupied.

Figured it was that since you hadn't read them (outbox, not sentbox) and you had been posting...

Well, that was a nice stay. Too bad I was working so much, didn't get to hang out all that much.

Still, nice to meet you! If you (or any other Sluggites) need a room for a few days in the Philladelphia area... welcome!

This is the first winter since I was a child that we haven't had a melt off of the snow at least once. It's been almost 3 months with no signs of ending yet.
