As someone who has been reading this strip since before the turn of the century, Pete's "Third Act" post was bittersweet.

On one hand, I'm sure his vision for the conclusion of the strip will be his usual 5 sigma above awesome, but what the heck am I going to look at first thing in the morning with my cup of coffee in hand?

The thing that really caught my eye was the request to help financially by becoming a Defender. The argument about few new readers due to the length of the strip also struck me as obviously true.

Of course, I've been a Defender for years now. It's the best deal in town. But, I've also reached a certain level of financial security in my profession so that I could afford a higher level of support.

How would folks feel about Bronze-Silver-Gold Defender levels? Say $25-$50-$60 a year (or something like this) with some additional benefits as you move up in status.

What do folks think? Would anyone else be willing to do this? What are the pros and cons of the idea?

Sort of what Bill Holbrook has going with "Kevin and Kell"?

Sounds cool. The only problem I can see is Pete having to generate additional bonus content for those extra defender levels.

Didn't he stop work on the defender exclusive Sampire comic because he was putting too much effort into it and it took away from his ability to do the main comic?
