While we're on themes from television shows, I'll go ahead and put in the song from Merlin as one I've always loved, even though it's only a short thirty seconds long.

I like it much better than the original. That's pretty awesome. It's good to see Kevin get a chance to use his cello skills. The gang also looked pretty bada$$ in post-apocalyptic mode. I take it I'm not the only Sing-Off junkie on the boards...

Actually, I encountered Pentatonix through Lindsey Sterling, and I've never seen The Sing-Off. :)

Ben Folds was the head judge and producer, backed by BoyzIIMen's Shawn Stockman, and in the last season, Sara Barelleis. The caliber of musical knowledge they brought to their jobs made every other reality judging panel look like a joke. Pentatonix was created solely for the show, as were many of the other standout groups in the show's three-season career. If you're at all an acapella fan, and you haven't seen the show, then you've missed the genre's modern pinnacle. I'm at work right now, but when I get home I'll try to post some of the show's highlights.

More acapella goodness: Duwende - ThrillerDuwende has a whole load of Michael Jackson covers, but this is their best one in my opinion. Some of the stuff they do on this cover is, for lack of a better term, sick. Their bassist absolutely kills it (in a good way) when he does the Vincent Price rap at the end. Duwende - All I Want For Christmas Is YouThis one puts me in the holiday mood any time of year. Sam Tsui ft. Kurt Schneider - Michael Jackson MedleyThis is nuts; he nearly seamlessly weaves together "The Way You Make Me Feel," "ABC," "I'll Be There," "Man in the Mirror," "Smooth Criminal," "Billie Jean," "Thriller," and "Beat It." It gets really crazy at the 3:00 mark. Matt Mulholland - Big Willie MedleyPerhaps not quite as technically polished as Duwende or Sam Tsui, but lots of fun. Includes "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air Theme," "Wild Wild West," "Men in Black," "Gettin' Jiggy Wit' It" and "Just the Two of Us." University of Wisconsin MadHatters - The Lion King MedleyIncludes "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," "Hakuna Matata," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Be Prepared" and "Circle of Life." Vocal Spectrum - Go The Distance (from Disney's Hercules)Very, very well done rendition. Near the end, a tenor holds a note for nearly 30 seconds! Mike Tompkins - Dynamite (Taio Cruz cover)This went viral a while back, so you've probably already heard it, but it's worth a second listen. Mike Tompkins - Firework (Katy Perry cover)Mike Tompkins - Paradise (Coldplay cover)Another two songs from Mike Tompkins.

Less on the a capella topic, but for some odd reason this has been stuck in my head all night.

Apparently I can't let this thread alone, but I can't believe I did not include No More Kings - Sweep the Leg. What's is wrong with me? Children of the '80s, this nostalgia trip is for you.
