London Lindy Exchange! This should be awesome. But today I've come down with a cold, and my girlfriend hurt her knee last weekend and it still hasn't fully recovered. Hopefully with a little more rest and a couple of early nights all will be well.

Some friends of mine and I are meeting to write some romance novel style sex scenes. We will then trade and critique. It's an exercise in writing, and also in killing bashfulness when writing.
There will also be cosmopolitans and various -tinis.

I think it's a pretty good exercise. You learn how to not be too cliche, you learn how to massage your words so you aren't using the same discripters over and over, and you learn how to portray one very common aspect of the human experience, you learn how to get over your blushing embarrassment of the subject (that last one may just be me).
As a technical writer, I hope to have an edge. Sex, for all its awesome sensualness, does tend to have a step-by-step process unless you're purposely stepping out of the box. You may flip the steps around, but all those steps are typically there.

There's a trope for poorly written sex scenes that read like that in media. It's called IKEA Erotica. I don't know why I linked that, other than the fact I think a trope like that even existing is hilarious. Warning: TVTropes!
