It's one of my favorite shows. Though its been off air for ahwile now it remains one of the more unique shows I've ever seen.

For those who don't know about Mystery Science Theater 3000 its about a mad scientist. He sends a guy into space and forces him to watch the worst movies ever made. His goal is to unleash the worst movie on to the world and take it over. The guy (first five years it was Joel then he left and MIKE took over) made two wisecracking robots to watch them with him. They make the craziest remarks about the movie while it plays. They also do hilarious skits during breaks from the films.

check out www.mst3k.com for more info. :)

Chances are you'll find a few fans here. I'd say about 80%-90% of Sluggites are geeks. And 100% are insane, so we love good comedy with the occasional obscure joke.

Bonus Stage did a reference or two or three to MST3k. I haven't ever seen it myself though.

Quote:
In the page title: "Manos: The Hands We Hate" is a parody of the movie title: "Manos: The Hands of Fate." Which was a movie once riffed by Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Quote:
PHIL: Alright, shoot an idea at me.

JOEL: {As silhouette of theatre seats appears from the bottom.} Mystery Science Theatre feature.

{Silhouette lowers out of view.}

PHIL: Can't do it.

JOEL: Why?

{Cut back to Phil.}

PHIL:Bestbrains owns copyrights to the theatre seat concept. You'd have to come up with a different way to watch the movie.

{Cut back to Joel, now with a disfigured, bemused face.}

JOEL: How can you own copyright on sitting in a seat?!

PHIL: They found a way.

Quote:
{alarm blaring}

PHIL: What's that sound? Is it story time?

JOEL: Yeah! The story of your ass being kicked...time!

The funniest joke I ever saw in an MST3K was in "The Final Sacrifice". Two characters, a man and a boy, have come to a cabin in the woods. There they meet a hermit-type fellow who would have been right at home in the family from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The hermit makes some kind of reference to the boy's father--
Boy: "You knew my father?"
Joel: "Knew him? He was delicious!"

I cracked up, man!

In short, MST3K is great... at the University... of Minnesota. :p

I haven't seen that many episodes, but I dearly love the show. My favorite episode was "Riding With Death."

Remember, when riding with death... buckle up.

Yep that was a classic. I have the Collosal Episode guide. In it they said a fan told them they missed a joke. Hugh Beaumant is a actually breaking down into a laughing fit when one of the climbers is pulling the other up. Maybe I'll post a screen shot if I bump into it again :D

Boy you guys have mentioned episodes I haven't even seen yet. Though I've seen more Joel episodes than Mike. And I didn't even have cable. Most I have a from tape/dvd trading and ones I've bought in stores. I have two of the dvd sets now.

I WANT THE SEASON BOX SETS!!!!!!!

I am currently downloading seasons of MST3K. I would say I have seen at least 1/2 of the 200 or so episodes they made in 11 years.

(But there were only 10 seasons you say? Ahh but you are forgetting the lost KTMA season when they were a local show on Minneapolis KTMA.)

Anyways if you are not above a little thing like copyright stopping you from watching old episodes go to http://www.torrentz.com/s.php?q=mst3k to find a site that links to torrent trackers where you can get old MST3K shows and even download whole seasons. (This is where I am getting my seasons from.)

You will not find any of the old seasons for sale and the MST3K, BestBrains does not own the copyrights to sell or show thier own show either. The reason behind this is because the orginal uncommented movies were licensed for 7 years. Because MST3K made them popular again the cost to renew thier access license was to great so they let them lapse.

That means that legally you can not distribute the orginal MST3Ks because the copyrights to make fun of the movies have reverted to the orginal film companies. Of course the orginal film companies can not show the MST3K version either as that is intellectual property of MST3K.

But MST3K will not chase after anyone sharing the old episodes and un-officially even endorse it through thier promotion of MST3K fan club. (Motto: Keep circulating the tapes.) Actually you can find that motto in the early season credits of MST3K.

As far as new seasons (Season 7 through 10 I believe) those rights have been secured in most cases and are under control by Rhino. You can buy MST3K episodes of high DVD quality from them.

Nope MST3K officailly went off the air around the year 1999 or so I believe. I do think I heard that the UK SCi-Fi channel might still play some of the season 7-10 episodes though. Let me see if I can find the link on everything you would ever want to know about MST3K.

Umm while looking for the site I once read I ran across the official fan site and the tape trading page.

http://www.mst3kinfo.com/trader.html

It is the same site as the MST3K history that teaches everything you would ever want to know including a "where are they now?" for all the cast members.

http://www.mst3kinfo.com/history/

Edit: I was briefly re-reading thier history and UK Sci-Fi dropped them so MST3K is no longer on the air anywhere.
