I'm told that it does exist, but we disapprove of fanfic.

Knowing how most fanfiction tends to be a bastardized form of the original work, that is probably a good thing.
Anyways, it just wouldn't seem like Sluggy without pictures and speech bubbles.

Yes, doesn't Pete have a 'no fanfic' rule? Clsoest I've ever gotten is a sly reference in the really awful part of my Chrono Trigger fan fic.

Ha ha... Well I'm always taking notes so.. Its either on my computer work or the website I help.. So I'm like ' I gotta check my notes' lol.. But yeah, Fan Fiction can be either good or bad.. * Shrugs* I mean.. I've seen plenty of X-Men Fan Fiction. Sometimes I wonder how Stan Lee thinks about us fan goers making ridiclous missions for his X-Men. He probably wouldn't aprove. But their are writers out there that try to stay on the same storyline. And some us, just want to take the characters on new adventures and stuff..
And also I'd LOVE to see Zoe and Torg get together!!

Well, I personally think that any worthwhile fanfic would be better if the person used the same story with his own characters and his own setting.
So I don't really see the point of fanfic, it's like saying 'I'm not creative enough to write my own story, so I'll piggyback on an already established one'.

Well, Pete seemed to think it was really cool to have some heavy Sluggy references, including a tank named Bun-Bun, with a picture of the bunny on it, and a very obvious "Riff" character, in that John Ringo book a while back. But that was obviously not set in the Sluggy universe, and more of an allusion verging on tribute, than a fanfic as I'd call it.

John Ringo's copuious Sluggy refs aren't really fanfiction, and they're incredable advertising. That's probably half the reason that Pete let them in.

I'm torn on this. On the one hand, you have a point, part of being able to tell a story is creating your own characters and the world they inhabit. On the other hand, this is difficult. By writing in an established world with established characters, one can practice the nuts and bolts of story telling one piece at a time.

Zoë and Torg together? Meh. I'd rather see Zoë and Gwynn together.
/me assumes someone's going to kill him for this.

Hmmmm.. Yes, sometimes Writers don't have any good ideas so they rescort to fan fiction for other ideas. But yeah, I see BobTheSpirit's Point. Your not creative enough to make up your own characters and your own world. So you'll piggyback on someone elses.
But hasn't there been a time where you wished you could replace yourself as a t.v. character, cartoon character, or even movie character? Isn't that what the realm of fiction is about? Being able to creat your own sceneraios be it not-orignal work or Fan Fiction?
I think the most screwed up fan fiction i saw was Sonic The Hedgehog crossed over with Dragon Ball Z . There not even in the same realm of each other.
I'm sorry if this looks like I'm fighting for Sluggy Fan Fiction, I just find this interesting thats all..
:-)
