Not terribly original but given the size of the Internet it is difficult to be original these days.

I only recently discovered Sluggy and have binge read a fair bit during the winter. I just discovered the forums today because I really just wanted to congratulate the author on the sheer range of burlesques, satires and parodies in the alternate worlds of the Sluggiverse through which the characters wander.

I'm guessing you were influenced by Candide and possibly even Gargantua et Pantagruel, the latter being a kind of Sluggy from the 1540s.

Whatever the cause, congratulations again.

Welcome top the forum kupfernigk!

Yes, being original in this internet age of ours does make things a little more difficult than in the past. But fortunately not impossible.

That being said, Pete is very good at coming up with many original things. You can tell there is much thought, research, and planning when it comes to many of his story arcs. I'm surprised how many times he surprises people with many unexpected things that nobody guesses.

I should tell you that Pete only reads what is written in Reactions due to a..."kerfuffle" that occurred many years (before I was even a member). So if you wish to express your thoughts about him, you will have to put it there. Or you could private message him too if you want.

Anyway [member's name here], now I will tell you about the strange tradition aimed at newcomers.

At one time there were Pesterers who pestered you for poetry, but that tends to be very rare nowadays. Even though you may not be pestered, if you do go and post an original poem --usually haiku but any (clean) type is accepted-- written by you, you will most likely receive a gift in return. The "gift" will most likely be useless or maim you. Whichever it may be, it should be interesting and surprising. Lastly, this strange tradition applies to the pestering not the poetry. You are not required to do anything more to be a member here...unless you want to possibly get a [name of harmlessly fatal item here] or some other type of gift.

Now go forth and do (almost) whatever you want, just don't speculate in Reactions.
