Not saying that it means anything, but after after making a joke in reactions about Riff dating number 3 again, I was toying around with whether there was any theme or significance to any of the gang's assigned numbers. Thought it could be fun to have a thread where we could discuss any significant number instances from the comic, as well as have fun with any more outlandish numerical coincidences.

The first significant set of numbers that comes to mind in Sluggy is 1, 2, 3 from way back in TBTW&TR. In context those numbers should mean nothing here, as they seem to refer to Riff and women. With Riff shown yet again dating a woman wearing the number three however, could it be relevant to examine? As the leader it's appropriate for Torg to be 1 with no greater signifiance needed. As Riff's best friend he also would fit as number one though. Together Zoe and Torg could be read as 1, 2, 3. So is she 23 or the 2 & 3 that completes Torg? (Notably, Zoe is the only one to get a prime number, saving her was the overall goal of Riff's solo arc, and as the Stormbreaker she's the heart of Sluggy prime.) Funnily enough, Riff's number could be read as 2 in binary (appropriate for a scientist/inventor), and Gwynn is 3³ (appropriate for a witch). Do the numbers 1, 2, 3 actually refer to women, or are they something more general involving Riff's priorities? His friends, family, girlfriends. Maybe 3 isn't a specific person, but just is the pin for romantic interests. Maybe Zoe is both a sister figure (family? = 2) and former romantic interest, 3. I suspect Pete is having fun messing with us by even vaguely giving a callback to 3 today. All of this probably means exactly nothing, but it's fun to toy with and try to rethink.

Either that or it's a setup for a Torg joke about "23 and me".
