I've had that facial hair style before. It didn't give me god powers, though.

He's displayed rather prominently in the background with a hood obscuring most of his face. It almost screams "look at me! I'm inconspicuous"
I say it's the betrayer god of justice keeping tabs on the mortals investigating Mohkadun.

So I guess the question is: Was Symachus joining the expedition the reason that the Cult of K'z'k told Nash & N'aaw to abort their mission of intercepting the sluggites?

I suspect the mission abort may have been Hereti Corp related. Those two clashing is still a thing that's fated to happen
If that really is Symachus, does that mean he managed to survive or side-step Right of Caste? Which one is his holiday again? Thanksgving, was it? Actually, I wonder if all the original gods gave up their powers like Bun Bun did (who was probably thrown into Timeless Space because he resisted), and they're all just wandering the Earth, immortal but powerless...

I don't think it's been revealed what happened to most of the gods. Symachus doesn't have a holiday.

The concept that the whole "Bun-bun and the holidays" storyline was founded on was that the job and powers of a holiday can be transferred from one person to another. Who is to say that killing the holiday is the only way to transfer power?

Here's Siphy explaining Symachus' holiday during the time of Mohkadun: http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/20130902But keep in mind that Sluggy's day was the strong punching the weak in the face. Not exactly how Easter works, yet he's the Easter Bunny (you'd think that'd be Dunuloa). So who knows how it all fits together.
