Doh! I saw that one... I thought I'd listed it...

Ian's strip _Bruno the bandit_ will be doing a dimension of pain story. I've looked at the announcement and saw a small nerdish dragon - surely the third dragon of annoya!

Isn't that a regular character in Bruno the Bandit? I don't read the strip, myself.

Hey kids, Announcement time. Since there are threads about other things, especially outside authors like John Ringo, this thread has been tweaked to allow all of that. It's not a bad thing, really!

In hard copy, there's a definite Sluggy Reference in S. M. Stirling's book "Conquistador" Very late in the book, almost at the end, the code for blowing up the Gate (interdimensional portal, sound familiar?) is: "Override B-1, override B-1, override B-1, Oasis".
Also, the name of one of the characters airplanes is the "No Biscuit" after what she was told by her Instructor Pilot when she made an error.

The "small nerdish dragon" is Fiona the micro-dragon, Bruno's sarcastic sidekick. She's a regular character in the Bruno the Bandit, and is probably not the Third Dragon of Annoyia.

Nah, I think that's a guinea pig... but it does have the color scheme and the attitude, so it could be a homage. Or not.

Okay, Megatokyo's Shirt Guy Dom, was pretty much modeled after Shirt Guy Tom. Piro and Dom both admit to as much, and in Megatokyo Vol. 1 pg. 99 Sluggy is mentioned and this is explained..

Which one was the strip with the sluggy referance, in which the two characters were homosexual, and one was reading Sluggy in the first panel?
I could've sworn the link was around here, but I can't find it.

Also in the Legacy of the Alldenata series of books. They painted a giant bun bun on thier Sheva gun, and named it bun bun, and talked about the strip, it was how I first heard of this strip.

Martin_Ross,
Me too...
Also in another series by John Ringo, Bun-Bun is actually a character in the story. It never names him, but he's an AI creation based off of a twentieth century web-comic. And it's definitely Bun-Bun, his penchent for destruction and strong drink are greatly portrayed in the second book "Emerald Sea".
The first book is "There Will Be Dragons"
And the latest is just out, "Against the Tide
