Well, since I'm doing this post on the fly since I have to get to class, it might not make sense.

Anyway, I think it could still possibly be Calix, due to the fact that in the ending strips of Holiday Wars, Blasphomy (sp?) said that Santa was sharing the same fate as Bun-Bun; eluding that he possibly killed the previous Santa?

I totally agree that it's just a beard. It makes him look the spit of his father but nothing like Santa. It's not a fluffy beard either, but a straight, swingy one. Not all beards are the same.
